One of our schoolwide goals is to increase student's writing skills in all 3 genres: narrative, informational, and opinion. We are working to meet our goal by implementing several things.
1) We will provide monthly writing professional learning to all teachers. This week's Writing professional learning was focused around using Write Score resources. As in past years, we will continue to partner with the company Write Score. Write Score offers a wealth of resources and assessments that teachers can readily use on a daily basis. These items are directly aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence and have proved beneficial in the past.
2) We will continue our Writing Wednesday initiative weekly. Each Wednesday, students are expected to write across the curriculum to build their writing stamina and increase skills. The writing will be directly aligned to the content the teacher is currently working on. Teachers wll continually provide feedback to students on their writing as they implement the writing process.
3) We will celebrate student's writing through our Writing Wall of Fame. Each month, teacher's will choose a student's writing piece to be placed on the Writing Wall of Fame board near the front lobby. Attached to the writing piece will be the teacher's commentary. This is our way of recognizing wonderful student achievements in the area of writing.
