Principal's Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
This has been a fun and full week here at Eagle Crest. In addition to the usual hustle and bustle of learning, we have been fortunate to have had many special events and visitors this week. On Tuesday morning a production crew from Colorado Public Radio, including education reporter Jenny Brundin (!), visited our PE classroom to interview students and staff about their experiences learning to skateboard with Square State Skate, one of our community partners.
The story is shaping up to be a great look into how skateboarding is not only a fun physical feat, but how it is accessible for everyone, and a great metaphor for life. Skateboarding teaches us to feel confident in learning at our own pace, having the perseverance/growth mindset to pick ourselves up again, finding the balance in modeling our actions after others, and thinking creatively to make our own artistic (and life) choices.
We are grateful to our PTO for sponsoring the program for our students each year and to our PE teacher, Mr. Goldsberry who is always seeking out creative ways to connect physical health and wellness in ways that are meaningful to our students.
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students' Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
This week we were able to restart our regular Library and Garage Schedules! We use this time to help facilitate more weekly collaboration time for classroom teachers. Teachers use this time to focus on student data and instruction.
Students will be visiting Mrs. Beckett in the Library or Mrs. Schwirtz in the Garage for two consecutive weeks. While visiting the Library, students will learn how to use the library, check out books, explore different genres, and develop research skills. When they visit the Garage, students will develop their leadership skills through hands-on projects focused on design thinking, technology, and coding.
Throughout the year you can find the Library and Garage schedule on the Lunch and Color Day Schedule at the bottom of this newsletter. Here are the next few weeks:
October 3rd - October 7th:
Library: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
Garage: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
October 10th - October 21st:
Library: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
Garage: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
**Even if your child is visiting Mrs. Schwirtz in the Garage for two weeks, they will still be able to return/renew/borrow library books during "Open Library" time in the mornings or with special check-out sessions with Mrs. Beckett.
We look forward to all of the books students will read and the amazing things they will get to create in the Garage with this new schedule!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney

October Count
It will be very important that your child attends school and his/her attendance is recorded. These “count” days are when the Colorado Department of Education records students’ attendance and bases funding on a per pupil count for Eagle Crest. In other words, the higher the count, the more funds from the State of Colorado will come into SVVSD and also directly to our school. Attendance is always important, and we ask that families do not schedule vacations, medical or dental appointments at this time. If your child must miss school for health reasons, please be sure to call the attendance line at 303-485-6073.

Gifted & Talented Referrals
DUE FRIDAY, September 30th!!
Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.
Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on September 30th. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the entire school year.
The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. You can access the online referral process here.
Please contact Lindsey Cheney, cheney_lindsey@svvsd.org for more information.
Silver Creek Kids Night Out
Lunch Menu & Color Day Schedule
The October Schedule is below!
Add Money to your Child’s School Breakfast & Lunch Account
MySchoolBucks is the website you want to access in order to add funds to your child’s account for purchasing breakfast, lunch, or milk at school. This system will send you reminders and can manage the account of multiple students. Money can also be sent to school by check or cash. Please label any checks or cash with the students first name, last name, and teacher.
If you haven’t yet, you can apply for Free & Reduced meals to see if your family qualifies for free meals. Applying for Free & Reduced lunch will help manage fees (like iPad Insurance or sports) and also helps our school receive additional funds and services. We encourage all families to complete the application.
