Back to School Bulldog Bulletin
August 1, 2023
Vol 5 No 1
Dear Families,
The countdown to our first day of school, August 28th has begun! We are so very excited to welcome you back to what promises to be an amazing, productive and exciting school year that is filled with the traditional Bond Mill events that we can't wait for you to experience and new opportunities to create traditions together. Go Team Bond Mill!
I look forward to seeing you all at our Sneak a Peek/Open House on Friday, August 25th (See below for more details). Our Back to School Nights are scheduled for the second week in September where you will learn all about your child's classroom, the curricula and our school's focus for the school year.
Now, the answer to the question everyone is asking: When will we know what teacher my child has been assigned?
Classroom teacher assignments will be available in the Parent Portal on August 24th.
Need help getting into the portal? Click on this link to sign up for the parent portal so you are ready when the time comes. (link in Spanish). The contact information that you list is what we use throughout the year - please be sure that it is accurate.
Next, School Supplies! Below this letter is a link to our school supply list for each grade level. This was also sent out to all registered students on July 19th. This list can also be found on our School website. If you have any questions? Give us a call (301-497-3600).
The Bulldog Bulletin is sent out every two weeks. At the beginning or end of the school year, I may send it out more often as more information needs to be shared. With that said, I ask that you also sign up for communications that are sent out by the district. You can receive emails and/or text messages. To sign up, visit School Messenger Alerts .
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me by phone or email 301-497-3600 or ursula.golladay@pgcps.org.
Sincerely,
Ursula Golladay
Principal

Help us welcome our staff back
We are preparing to welcome our teachers & staff back to school on August 21st and would love your help! I'm looking for help to sponsor a breakfast or lunch any of these days during pre-service week. Please contact me if you know someone, a company, or if you would like to help me put this together.
The PTO & I would love to provide our teachers with snacks in the staff lounge all week long! You can use this Stock the Lounge Wish List SY24 to purchase snacks that can ship directly to Bond Mill ES and go right into the staff lounge. Our address is 16001 Sherwood Avenue Laurel, MD 20707.
The Bond Mill PTO would like to welcome our new and returning families to the 2023-2024 school year! Thank you to everyone for making last year a HUGE success through our fundraisers; we were able to raise over $10,000 and will be able to help add to the new playground.
We will continue to form our Fundraising, Hospitality, Special Events, Book Fair, Carnival and Membership committees to make this year even better! In order to budget for the many things that the PTO provides each year, we are aiming for 100% participation from Parents and Teachers. We know that it is a lofty goal, but without you, our events cannot be possible. Be on the lookout for various membership drives and committee signups.
We will be electing new PTO Board members and need your support now more than ever. These positions are a huge part of the PTO’s success. You can make a significant contribution to our school by bringing your fresh perspective and ideas to the Board. This election will be for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Staff Representatives and Parent Representatives. Job descriptions can be found on the Bond Mill PTO website https://bmespto.membershiptoolkit.com and nominations can be submitted here https://forms.gle/NHGaTnEJ2Ra3r5PX9
Nominations will be open until Tuesday, September 26. Elections will be held on Tuesday, October 3, the first PTO meeting of the year. Please reach out to Gina Embley, PTO President at bondmillpto@gmail.com with any questions.
Don't forget, that if you haven't already, please renew your PTO membership. It is only $10 per family for the school year.

A Healthy New Year!
Supporting School Health Services
Congratulations, our school team has been nationally recognized in the School Health Services.
Greetings to the Students and Families of Bond MIll Elementary School. I am Sue Righter, the School Nurse. I am so excited to begin my 3rd year at Bond MIll Elementary School. Throughout my entire nursing career, my emphasis, no matter what job or setting, has been in the promotion of child health and wellness. I believe strongly in collaborating with families and educators and look forward to a very healthy 2023-2024 school year at Bond Mill ES.
This school year I invite interested parents and families to join me as we explore ways to promote good health of our students, families and community. BMES has been recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Schools in the area of Health Services, but we can do more. Following the guidelines of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation I am looking for family input to identify ways to encourage family engagement and involvement in promoting healthy student behaviors. I am very curious to hear your input. Anyone vested in the improved health of their student, our school and community can reach me at sue.righter@pgcps.org. As we get closer to the start of school you will find me in the BMES Health Room (240-547-4611).
Countywide Health Room policies:
If your child requires medication during the school day - per PGCPS policy, a completed Medication form is required. These forms have sections for both the Health Care Provider and the parent to complete. The link to these forms is here.
Student attendance is critical for academic success but we all know that illness happens. If your child needs to miss class time due to illness or a Health Care Provider appointment please contact your child’s teacher, the school main office (301-497-3600), or myself in the Health Room (240-547-4611) as soon as you are aware of the absence. When your child returns to school please send a written note explaining the absence. If the absence is an excused absence make up work will be provided upon timely request. Please be aware of the school calendar and whenever possible schedule travel and appointments during non instructional times. Know that explanations of absences may be requested from Health Care Providers for extended or frequent absences. Please contact me if you have any questions about the absence policy.
