Dear Vista Families,

Thank you for coming out for our Family Movie Night Featuring the film Coco. A special shout out to our PFA and parent volunteers for making the evening a success. A lot of time and effort goes into planning, set up and tear down. From the chicharrones from Tijuana to the cotton candy and champurado, a ton of thought and effort went into this event. If you would be willing to help at a future event, please reach out to the front office or PFA directly.

We had a great turnout for Vista's Family Art Night last Tuesday. Our MPR was full of happy participants. I have enclosed photos within this newsletter of our two recent family events. If you were unable to make any of our family events, we have more coming so stay tuned.

Finally, on Wednesday, October 4th is our Walk or Roll to School Day. This event highlights the importance of exercise as well as reduces harmful emissions. Even if you commute to school, park down the block and walk with your child the rest of the way to school. Participating students will receive a special sticker! Vista has been using Cognitive Thinking Maps for several years. Thinking Maps are ways that students that students use to help correlate specific cognitive processes. They are used across all grades and content areas to build the critical thinking, problem-solving, comprehension, and communication skills necessary for academic success.

Last week students were reintroduced to a Double Bubble Map. A Double Bubble Map is used to identify points of similarity and differences. The two ideas, items or events being compared are written in the two larger center circles. Outside bubbles contain things that are only possessed by/relevant to one of the two ideas, items or events. Below are some ways that you can help reinforce the concept of the Double Bubble Map at home.

Please be sure that your child arrives on time and attends school daily. Research shows that students place importance on education when education is made a priority. Students are more likely to get good grades in school and graduate high school. Be sure to set your child up for success!

Several of our entry/dismissal points are on Vista Drive so plan ahead for early arrival and morning school traffic. The staff parking lot will be closed. There will be no entry/exit to the parking lot. Keep in mind that all white painted curbs are for student drop off and no parking will be allowed in those areas. Please be courteous to our neighbors by not blocking driveways and adhering to the posted speed limits. Claremont Police Department continually monitors the flow of traffic so please adhere to all posted signs.

During the first week of school, teachers will send out an iPad check out form. Please be sure to return this form as soon as possible. iPads will not be sent home until this form is returned to your classroom teacher. Enclosed is the iPad insurance form. For a nominal fee, you can insure your child's iPad for the entire school year.
