Dear Highland Park Family,

As we begin our much deserved winter break I wanted to express my gratitude for the commitment you have made to strengthening our community. Students, staff, parents, guardians and community members are making their voices heard and working collaboratively to support each other. Together we have been creating engaging opportunities during the school day and after school. District events are well attended and we continue to work closely with community partners. As we head into 2023, let's continue to support our commitment, the best is yet to come!

I would like to review school closing procedures for inclement weather so you are kept up to date of our district plans and make sure you have access to all pertinent information. When schools need to close or we need to have delayed opening or early dismissal, information is disseminated in a number of ways. The decision to close is based on the current and extended forecast along with consultation with our local police as well as the district's Facilities Manager of Buildings and Grounds. Once the decision is made, alerts will be set up through our Instant Alert System with the information delivered through phone calls, emails and push notifications to the app.

Please make sure that the school's main office secretaries have your current contact information in our system to receive the calls and emails. This year's calendar includes 1 emergency close day. If we use this 1 emergency closing day and have another emergency closing day, we will take back the following days in the following order:

1 - June 19, 2023

2 - February 20, 2023

3 - June 23, 2023

The Central Leadership Team (CLT) met on November 21, 2022 to discuss a couple of options for school start and end times for all four schools. Members of the committee brought the options to their School Leadership Teams for input and feedback. The CLT met again on December 7, 2022 to review the input from the school staff. We will be presenting the proposed school start and end times to the community and Board of Education at the January 23, 2023 board meeting. The proposal will be sent out with the board agenda ahead of the meeting.
