Weekly Newsletter 13.10.23
This week...
In such a busy environment, I try hard to take moments of quiet to reflect on our school journey. This week, I was able to spend some time with St Bernadette's Class in our weekly Mass - this allowed me an opportunity to consider all the fantastic things we have been able to offer our children and families. This week, we have held...
- two school open days;
- a class trip to take donations to the local foodbank project;
- a welcome liturgy for Reception families and their Y6 buddies;
- a whole school celebration assembly for families;
- class library trips;
- swimming sessions;
- whole school singing liturgy;
- whole school guided meditation;
- a class Mass in our parish Church;
- and a KS2 cross-country event at Sherburn High!
Wow! This is on top of all the fabulous learning going on in our classrooms and throughout school as usual too. Feeling very proud of St Joseph's right now!
Thank you for all your support in being able to offer all of these amazing experiences for our children, so that together we can...
Live, love and learn with the Lord.

Weekly Class Mass - St Bernadette's
This week, St Bernadette's Class attended Mass. We were very proud of the way they represented our school and several parishioners noted how beautifully and reverently our children had behaved.
Foodbank Delivery

Reception New Starter Liturgy
Our children, supported by their Year 6 buddies, were given a blessing by our parish priest, Father Sean, and given a special candle, which they will take home.
It was a beautiful liturgy and we are delighted to be welcoming our new children and their families to our school!
KS2 Cross-Country Event
It was a fun, exhilarating event! Well done to all of our children for completing the run! We even managed to bag a medal!
This week we have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery and Preschool)
St Francis (Reception / Y1)
St Bernadette (Y2)
St Patrick (Y3/4)
In St Patrick's Class this week, we have continued to develop our sketching skills in Art.
Continuing our still life focus, we have been studying and sketching vegetables and plants from our school allotment.
St Therese (Y5/6)
St Therese class became the tomb of Tutankhamun on Monday afternoon. In class, we have been learning about Howard Carter's discovery, and this week we had the opportunity to 'enter' it and see what was inside. We learned about the rooms, the treasures, and the body of Tutankhamun, which was inside layers of sarcophagi and coffins, nesting inside each other like Russian dolls.
Head over to our Twitter account if you would like to see a video of St Therese's singing their Ancient Egyptian Embalming song!

Virtue of Thankfulness
In our Virtues worship on Monday, I shared with the children the 'Thanksgivings' bedtime routine I have with my own children at home! Each night, we each list three things we are thankful for from our day, no matter how miserable or mundane the day may have felt. This helps us to remain grateful for all the blessings God has given us, even when it's something as seemingly small as enjoying a cup of tea in peace!
Have a go at trying the Thanksgiving routine at home too and let us know how it goes!

A message from Friends of St Joseph's...
It has been great to see so many families join the new Friends of St Joseph’s Facebook group!
There was a meeting earlier this week to start generating some ideas for stalls and activities for the Christmas Fair on 3rd December! Please do get in touch if you want to offer any time or have any talents to share! There will be lots of opportunities to get involved! Further planning meetings will be announced soon.
As autumn is just round the corner, we will be having a rest from freeze pop Friday. We have been really pleased at how popular it was so thank you for supporting this! After half term, Treat Friday will start with other treats for the end of the week.
