The Viking Spotlight is the part in my weekly newsletter used to highlight and celebrate our students and staff anytime we can! "I just want to share with you this gift that Javier Corona did for the cafeteria. He is a 7th grader and without asking he drew it and was a wonderful surprise for us. So we decided to make copies and decorate the lunch lines and he put his signature on it. He is always kind and every day and he helps Ms. Trejo with the left over fruit."

It is an honor to have so many of our students included in the band, and we know you will make MVA proud!

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving vacation and had a great time with your loved ones. Whether you traveled or stayed home, stayed busy or couch-surfed, I hope it was exactly what you needed to rejuvenate and be ready to crush it these last three weeks of the first semester! It's hard to believe we are in the home stretch, but it's here! If you haven't listened to any of my previous suggestions to stay on top of your work, it's now or never. You got this, Vikings!

We will have Saturday Academy for the next two weekends, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9, so be sure to take advantage of those if you need academic support and/or need to clear attendance. Don't forget we also have tutoring after school Monday through Thursday from 3:20-4:20pm. The help is there, Vikings, we just need you to show up for it! 💛

The last week before break, we celebrated our Fall Sports Athletes on the basketball, baseball, and softball teams at their end of season banquets!! A special congratulations to Coach Ortega and our Varsity Basketball team on winning the South Bay League Championship! 🏆 It's the third year in a row that MVA has won the league championship for Varsity Basketball! Amazing!!

Thank you to Coach T, Coach Bella, and Coach Ortega for all of their hard work in keeping our programs running and our athletes growing! 💛 Go Vikings!

On the Thursday before break, it was time to showcase our band students at our district's annual band pageant! 🎶 It was awesome to see our beginning and advanced students out there with all of the other middle school bands doing a group performance, and they did awesome!! Great job, you guys!! 🤗 Thank you to our awesome Band Director, Ms. Glover, for all that she does to keep music alive at MVA!

We ended the week before break with a Field Day that included a visit from the Army National Guard's Black Hawk helicopter!🤗 Sgt. Ryan and his team arranged for the landing, tour, and takeoff of a Black Hawk helicopter! It was such an awesome experience, and I'm so grateful to Sgt. Ryan and his team for making it happen! 🙌🏾 In addition, we had various activity stations during our Field Day, one of which was a Splash of Gratitude event where students were able to purchase buckets of water to splash onto staff members! 💦 Thank you to our staff members who were willing to take part in this awesome activity! 💛 Check out the compilation video below for more pics from the event! It was definitely an awesome way to end the last Friday before break! 🤗

The San Diego County Office of Education and Computers2Kids are hosting an event for families to purchase affordable computers on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Cesar Chavez Middle School located at 202 Oleander Drive, Oceanside, CA 92057 (Drive Thru Event).

Since the beginning of the 2022-23 academic year, the partnership between SDCOE and Computers2Kids has provided over 1500 refurbished computers to San Diego families. As of July 2023 they have provided 1,288 refurbished computers to 797 San Diego families. We hope your families are able to benefit from this event.

Our Adult Education department invites you to a Career Readiness workshop for parents and adult students. This workshop series will include Job search, Resume writing, Interviewing skills as well as educational programs offered through our Adult Education schools: Tuesday, November 28, December 5 and December 12, 2023, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
