Cornerstone Update
September 11, 2023

Our New Monthly Newsletter
You have received this digital newsletter because of a recent connection with Cornerstone staff: DeeDee Judd and/or Cecilia Jiminez. We are excited to share this first newsletter with you as an introduction to Cornerstone, and to help us stay in touch. If you do not wish to receive these updates, use the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the page.
Our goal is to establish relationships with families so that students are prepared for the journey ahead. Parenting can be very challenging - we know. Our hope is that Cornerstone can help you navigate the schools - and life, and find community resources to make it a little easier.
Each month, on the last day of the month, this newsletter will arrive in your email to give you an update on the work being done. We want to feature families - just like you, who are working hard - just like you. We also want to let you know what we've been doing. Please consider sharing this newsletter with others!
Supporting Families In Their Journey
Over the summer, we met so many Chehalis families! We were able to help some of them get support for pre-school placement this fall. Over 20 families have received this kind of support! We have some great pre-school programs in our community. Let us help you find the right placement for your pre-schooler.
We've also been able to help families prepare for the new school year. We helped connect people with local resources to ensure students have coats and school supplies. We'd like to give a big shout out to one generous Chehalis couple, Mike and Sue Austin. They have been providing school supplies for Chehalis kids for several years! Let us know if we can help you find coats for your family before the colder weather sets in. And if you still need school supplies, give us a call!
Sometimes it can be hard to provide the basics! Since July, we've connected eight families with local food banks to help provide regular support. If you know someone who also finds this challenging, send this newsletter to them with a note from you. They might appreciate having our contact information handy when the time is right.
If you have an infant, another basic item you never want to run out of is diapers! -Thanks to a local resource, we have collected over 500 diapers to support families with very young children. Give us a call if we can help you with this support.
Out And About
We love our work - mostly we love meeting Chehalis families. You may have seen us at a number of events. Recently, we met many parents and students at Open House events at both of the elementary schools. The teachers and staff at Orin Smith Elementary and James Lintott Elementary are such caring people. We enjoyed being at both schools and making so many new friends.
When we learn about resources in our community, we have more to share with families in Chehalis. On September 7th we attended the Lewis County United Way Community Impact Luncheon with a few other folks from the school district. We learned so much about the work United Way is doing, and look forward to finding ways our families can get connected with resources and support.
We also had the chance to meet people at the Lewis County Youth Mentorship Program Resource Fair, which was held at Centralia College. There were HUNDREDS of families at this event! Over 1,000 backpacks were given away that day! You can read more about the event on the Lewis County website using the button below:
