MLC Weekly News and Notes
November 13th-17th
Hello, MLC community. Sadly, I am still not outside blasting music welcoming our students back in the mornings. I am still hopeful we will get to be together soon. I know we will get through this.
Until then, here are some resources and reminders:
The 6th-12th Info Night will be virtual Tuesday night. Check below for the link and more info.
Fall Parent/Teacher Conference links are up. This will all be contingent on the strike being over and what plan is negotiated for a return to school. For now - we think it is better to plan for what we can. Please read the blurb below for that information.
Best,
Suezann

Parent Teacher Conferences
Each year we host Parent-Teacher conferences during the third week of November. This year's dates are Monday, Nov 20 and Tuesday Nov 21.
HERE is a link to each teacher's conference schedule. These in-person conferences will be held from 8:30am until 8:00pm.
Kindergarten through 6th grade families are invited to sign up for a 20-minute conference with their child's homeroom teacher. Teachers of 7th-12th graders are scheduling 10-minute conferences. These shortened conference slots provide an opportunity for each family to meet with each of their student's teachers.
Conference slots are also available if you wish to meet with counselors, PE, Art and our Media specialists.
Special Education case managers will be available to attend some scheduled conferences. Please email them directly or phone the main office if you would like to invite them.

PTSA News
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee
The PTSA is looking for a few extra hands to help spread the love to our MLC teachers throughout the year, but especially at Solstice and during Teacher Appreciation week. Reach out to Sierra at mlcauctioncommittee@gmail.com to found out more.
The MLC Craft Fair is Coming
Get out your hot glue and google eyes! MLC's annual Craft Fair will be Thursday, November 30 from 3:30-5:00pm. The Craft Fair is an annual celebration of all things creative, where students are able to showcase and sell their arts & crafts. Students are invited to set up a booth, afterschool, free of charge, and sell their handmade treasures to the MLC community. Grown Ups of the MLC community are welcomed to sign up for a booth with a $20 donation to the PTSA. For those who are new to the craft fair, please know that there isn't a craft too small or too big that can be sold. Creations range from handmade comic books by kindergarteners to complex art by highschoolers and professional artisans, it is truly an event to celebrate all that makes MLC special.
Save the date and look for sign ups next week.
Lunchtime Helpers
Volunteers are needed 11:30-12:30 M-Th to provide extra help on the playground and wherever help is needed while the kids are at lunch/recess. Sign up HERE
You will need to complete your PPS background check. The background check does take some time, but it’s good for 3 years. You can apply for the background check at www.pps.net/volunteer
Parking Fundraiser Volunteers Needed
It’s peak soccer season and this is one of the best times of year for our school to fundraise by offering parking for the Timbers and Thorns games. These parking fundraisers hosted by the PTSA, will continue to fill the gap and help support our staff and students with the much-needed funds for student activities. Our parking coordinators will teach you everything you need to know to get you well on your way!
We need people for the Thorns first playoff game on 11/5!

Donations Needed for OBOB at MLC!
Oregon Battle of the Books is a reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by Oregon Association of School Libraries. This year we have seventeen 4th and 5th grade students and seven 6th grade students signed up to participate. They have already started reading. With so many students signed up, we do not have enough books for everyone. Ideally we would have 6 copies of each book for the 4th and 5th graders and 4 copies of the books for the 6th graders. So we are looking for donations of books that are needed. Here is what we need: http://bit.ly/493QpA8
You can purchase books from anywhere and good quality used books are encouraged. Here is an Amazon Wishlist that can also be used to purchase books: https://bit.ly/408vyaO
Thank you for supporting these excited readers!
