Our First Senior Class Scholars and Parent-Guardian Informational Meeting!
Wednesday, August 31, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The BASA Counseling Center Is excited to present our very first Senior Class Parent-Guardian informational meeting! This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 6:30 PM until 8:30 P in the BASA Cafe'. You will be presented with a wealth of information that will assist you in supporting your scholar during their last year of high school, and it will also assist in preparing them for a successful college and/or career experience after their May 2023 graduation. The general session will begin promptly at 6:30 PM. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to select three of the following sessions to attend:
General Session - 6:30 PM - 6:55PM:
- Welcome Class of 2023 Families - Meet BASA's Proud Principal and BASA's Caring Counselors
- All Things Senior! - The Senior Advisor, Ms. Cox, will give parents, guardians and their scholars an overview of Who?, What?, When? and Where? as it relates to various events for the BASA Graduating Class of 2023.
- Which Test Should I Take? - You and your scholar will gain insight about the SAT, ACT, ASVAB and Accuplacer tests. Discover which test your scholar will need for their future college and/or career plans.
Break-out Sessions (Choose one per session) 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM:
Session I - 7:00 PM - 7:25 PM
Session II - 7:30 PM - 7:55 PM
Session III - 8:00 PM - 8:25 PM
A: Show Me the Money! - You and your scholar will learn about potential ways in which they can pay for college via the following opportunities:
- The Hope Grant, Hope Scholarship, and the Zell Miller Scholarship - Learn about eligibility requirements and the amounts each scholarship provides.
- The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program - Each award provides full tuition, as well as room and board, for the term of the scholarship. The scholarship may be renewed each year, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and normal progress toward the bachelor's degree.
- The United States Army - Whether you want to enlist in the U.S. Army or you’re interested in an ROTC scholarship opportunity, the U.S. Army has ROTC, Army Medical, Law Scholarships and more for you to have little to no debt to pay for college.
B: I Am Career Ready!- You and your scholar will be introduced to the various job and/or career options that are available now as a high school student and later as an intern or career-ready high school graduate:
Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy's Work-Based Learning Coordinator - Learn about pre and post high school graduation career opportunities that are offered within Barrow and other local counties.
- The United States Army - Learn about career opportunities and enlistment bonuses that are offered through the U.S. Army.
C: TECHnically Speaking! - You and your scholar will be introduced to the programs and that are offered at Lanier Technical College, and Athens Technical College. You will also learn about the "high demand" careers that are fully funded.
D: College Bound - You and your scholar will learn about the exciting programs that offer extensions of the pathways that scholars have explored or completed here at BASA, in addition to many more potential majors that are offered:
- Georgia Gwinnett College - Lights, Camera, Action! They offer a Cinema and Media Arts Production degree, along with many other great majors.
- Middle Georgia State University - Pilot anyone? Did you know they have a School of Aviation. You can learn to fly aircrafts, repair aircrafts or manage the flight of aircrafts. There are many other great majors offered at Middle Georgia State University's Macon campus.
- University of North Georgia - Picasso, Picasso, Picasso! Discover the wonderful program for Art and many other great majors.
