Intro message to your class
Dear Families,
Math
Math Class
8th-Grade Common Core Math Class:
We have not had enough time to complete a test for the Progress Reports. Your students' first test will be October 2nd. Their first unit consists of skills surrounding Expressions and Equations. These skills are part of the major standards in 8th grade. By the end of the unit, your student should be able to find solutions for linear equations.
Their progress reports will represent how well your student is completing their daily classwork (20% of their final grade) and homework (5% of their final grade). Their summative assessments (test, quizzes and projects) will eventually make up 75% of their final grade.
Your student should have homework almost every day.
Daily lessons before the progress reports:
1.1-Order of Operations
1.2-Evaluating Expressions
1.3-The Distributive Property
1.4-Solving One-Step Equations
1.5-Solving Two-Step Equations
1.6-Solving Multi-Step Equations
1.7 Solutions to Linear Equations
1.8-Linear Inequalities in One Variable
Unit One Review
YOUR STUDENT'S FIRST TEST OF THE YEAR IN ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 2ND.
Compacted Math (8th-year 2)
We have not had enough time to complete a test for the Progress Reports. Your student has finished their first project which counts as a test grade. During their first weeks of school we are focusing on reviewing the most critical skills covered in 8th grade standards. These skills are part of the major standards related to linear equations (algebraically manipulating and graphing). By the end of the review, your student should be able to find solutions for linear equations, graphing linear equations and solving systems.
Their progress reports will represent how well your student is completing their daily classwork (20% of their final grade) and homework (5% of their final grade). Their summative assessments (test, quizzes and projects) make up 75% of their final grade.
Your student should have homework almost every day.
Daily lessons before the progress reports:
1.6-Solving Multi-Step Equations
1.7 Solutions to Linear Equations
1.8-Linear Inequalities in One Variable
2.4-Rate of Change
2.7-Calculating Slope from Graphs
2.8-The Slope Formula
3.1-Graphing Using Slope-Intercept From
3.2-Writing Linear Equations from Graphs
3.5-More Graphing Linear Equations (standard form and point-slope form)
3.6-Graphing Linear Inequalities in Two-Variables

We are well on our way in the Waves unit where we are currently learning about sound waves and noise-induced hearing loss. Next up will be the electromagnetic spectrum and various forms of light energy.
We have completed a C.E.R. (claim-evidence-reasoning) and a homework SNACE assignment. These assignments are available on Canvas, as well as all of our daily work should a student be absent. A copy of our textbook is available on Canvas under Modules.
