Agenda
The Waikiki School PTO will hold an online election for the position of PTO president. There are two candidates.
(From Chela's first Nominator) She is friendly and welcoming and easy for parents to talk to. She is also organized and creative. As a teacher herself, she knows how schools are run and the parent/teacher relationship.
(From Chela's second Nominator) This will be a great opportunity for Chela as a first grade parent. She will be invested in the school for years to come with a kindergartener soon to join us.
Trond Knutsen (Father of current 5th grader)
(From Trond's Nominator) Trond is a steadfast supporter of Waikiki School and has a lot of great ideas for the coming year. He is an experienced leader and would like to give back to Waikiki School this final year of Henry’s at the school.
Additionally, we will go over the calendar of PTO supported events for the 2023-24 school year.

Localicious Recipe Contest
WHAT SCHOOL LUNCH MEAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN YOUR SCHOOL CAFETERIA?
The contest launches August 21 (TODAY!) and runs through September 22, 2023.
The contest is a fun cooking competition to educate and inspire kids about the importance of supporting local farmers and producers and making sustainable food choices. To participate, students must submit an original recipe of a school lunch meal they would like to see in their school cafeteria. Recipes must include at least one locally-grown, raised or caught product with additional points awarded for dishes that include vegetables, fruits, grains and/or beans. A culinary professional will review and select the top three (3) recipes from two grade categories: Grades 4-8 and 9-12.
The top three finalists in each grade category will be notified in early October and invited to prepare and present their dish in front of a live audience for tasting and scoring by three judges at the Hawai‘i Gas Presents Localicious® Recipe Contest Cookoff at the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival’s Keiki in the Kitchen event in Honolulu, Hawaii. Each finalist will receive a $50 gift card to purchase ingredients needed for the final cookoff. Celebrity chefs will serve as judges and determine the winners in each category.
Cash scholarships will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in grades 9-12 and cash gift cards will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in grades 4-8. Winners will be announced at the live Cookoff event during Keiki in the Kitchen on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Bishop Museum.
