Ivan Green Weekly Update
December 15, 2023
Welcome from Mr. Hiley
We did it! We met our BEAR reading goal of 3,000 books. This community has read 3,000 books since October! Actually, we have surpassed our goal by 300 and we still have a week go to! We will be celebrating with a special treat - stay tuned for a coupon for free Timbits in your child's take-home folder.
Our health office has been a busy place this week! We are seeing more cases of both respiratory and GI illness. Please remember that your students must be symptom free for a full 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications before your student returns. If your student is having symptoms prior to school, a temperature reading is suggested to rule out fever. Coughing that will inhibit a student’s ability to learn is also grounds for staying home. Please call our nurse, Mrs. Izzo, if you have any questions! 339-1314.
Enjoy this last weekend before we take a break from school and welcome in 2024. As a reminder, we have themed days next week - see below.
Sincerely,
Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.
Principal

Mark your calendars for a spirit week at Ivan Green from December 18-21. We will countdown to the new year with some special theme days. See below!
Lancer Guards Have Returned
Lancer Guards have returned! Lancer Guards stand in the hallway during morning arrival to remind students to make safe choices and show HEART. Over the past month, second graders have had the opportunity to fill out job applications, get character references, and even interview with Mrs. Swartz, our AVID Coordinator, for their jobs. Congratulations to our first round of students who will be serving the school as Lancer Guards!
SAVE THE DATE for Online Safety Night!
Join us for this informative night with a presentation from the NYS Troopers about how to keep your kids safe while they are using the internet or social media.

Free Breakfast and Lunch
We are excited to announce that beginning January 2, 2024, through the end of the school year, East Irondequoit CSD will be providing free breakfast and lunch to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
The CEP is a federal program that allows eligible schools districts to offer free meals to all students, regardless of individual household income. As of recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has expanded access to the federal CEP, allowing eligible schools participating in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs to offer school meals at no charge. The district is hopeful to extend this benefit to students in future school years, if federal and state funding makes this feasible.
If you have any questions or would like more information about the Community Eligibility Provision, please feel free to contact the Assistant School Business Official, Tim Heaphy at 339-1284.
