SC READY Information
Pontiac Families,
On May 9th, 10th, and 11th third, fourth and fifth grade students will be administered the SC READY state assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The SC READY measures students’ performance on the South Carolina Academic Standards, with test results being used for school, district, and federal accountability purposes. The test is not timed and will be administered online. The testing schedule will be:
Tuesday, May 9th- SC READY ELA Session One Test
Wednesday, May 10th- SC READY Session Two Test
Thursday, May 11th- SC READY Mathematics Test
In an effort to make testing go smoothly please ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep each night prior to the test and is at school no later than 8:10 am each morning. Testing will take place during the first portion of each day. It is our expectation that each student does his/her personal best during testing.
Students who are absent during testing will be administered make-up tests up until June 1st for SC READY. Please avoid scheduling any appointments and early dismissal on the days of testing.
If you have any questions regarding testing please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Gillespie the school testing coordinator.
Thank you and have a good evening!
Jennifer Gillespie

Teacher Appreciation Week
This week is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! Each year, PTO provides a lunch for our teachers to say THANK YOU for what they do each day to support our children. This year we are providing a catered lunch from Moes to celebrate Cinco De Mayo! We need your help to provide a sweet treat to them during lunches on Friday, May 5. Please drop off a cake, brownies, cupcakes, or other dessert that we can share with our staff! A PTO representative will be in the car rider line on Friday morning for you to drop off the dessert to make it easy for you as you head to work! If you are simply to busy to bake, a donation is much appreciated too! Thank you for your consideration!

Adopt-a-Doc
Parents, have you heard about Adopt-a-Doc? Partnering with MUSC, physicians offer their expertise in health and wellness to the schools in our community. These doctors serve as a resource to the school Wellness Committees and help conduct needs assessments. They also help implement positive changes that will enhance the wellness of everyone within our schools. The program believes that by working together to improve health we will benefit our entire community because healthy teachers are better teachers and healthy kids are better learners.
Pontiac is so excited that Dr. Ramasamy, also a Pontiac parent, partnered with our school and is helping us with the implementation of students growing healthy fruits and vegetables. Classes have assigned school gardeners and many grade levels are helping plant seeds. How exciting it has been to watch these seeds sprout!
We are also excited about an exciting opportunity for our families as part of this initiative. Dr. Ramasamy is hosting a healthy cooking class for our children and their parents! We'd love for you to join us on Thursday, May 11 at 5pm! Please email Nurse Larck at jlarck@richland2.org to RSVP!
Scouts!
Do you have a son currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade? We would love for you to join us in scouting. Cub Scout Pack 101 meets at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary but is open to Pontiac students as well. We already have several Pontiac Parrots involved, but we are looking to grow. Please call me or text me if you are interested.
