Here comes February

We spent our January getting back into the swing of things after winter break. We retaught our R.O.A.R (Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility) expectations and we completed our winter screening window for Fastbridge (Reading and Math benchmarks). As get into the month of February, we have Sweetheart dances, we have Valentine's Day parties, and we get continue to dig into our curriculum and standards with our students.

There is a lot of information below. Please read through it to be updated on all things happening at Central Elementary.

Upcoming No School Days - February 17 and February 20

There will be no school on Friday, February 17 for a staff development day. Teachers will be engaged in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training on this day.

There will be no school on Monday, February 20, to observe President's Day.

Save the Date for Sweetheart Dances!

On Friday, February 10, we will hold our Sweetheart Dances in our gym. This is one of our favorite family events each year! More information will be sent home closer to the date.

The Father/Daughter Dance will be 5:00-6:00 p.m.

The Mother/Son Dance will be 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Special Class Highlight: LEGO Spike Kits in STEM

STEM is one of our specials classes that our students attend every week. This past month, some grade levels have been able to explore and work with our LEGO Spike Kits. Students collaborate and work in teams to build programmable structures that can move.

In the picture, 4th grade students were constructing a taxi that is able to drive. iPads are used with the LEGO spike kits to provide directions and to program the movements. Students do a great job of being self-directed and working together.

2nd Grade Research and Habitat Project

In a second grade classroom, students dove head first into a science project by researching animals that they got to choose. In their research, students learned everything they could about their animals and habitat. They completed rough and finals drafts of their research packets. The project was capped with students designing and building animal habitats. Students loved the hands on projects and learning about their animals. They even got to share their hard work with their 5th grade buddy classroom.

Author Visits Central Elementary - February 8th

Jess Townes, author of Groundhog Gets It Wrong, will be visiting us on Wednesday February 8th. She will be visiting with our preschool through 2nd grade students and reading her book to us. we are excited to have her come and read to our students.

PTO Meeting - February 6

Our next PTO meeting is on Monday, February 6, at 5pm in our library. We will be discussing upcoming events, including our Sweetheart Dances. All are welcome to attend to help plan.

Major Saver Cards

We are looking forward to our Major Saver (Restaurant and Activity Discount Card) campaign kicking off next week benefiting the Union R-XI Foundation. Money raised will go towards student scholarships and other Union R-XI foundational needs The information packet will go home with all students on February 1. Students will be learning about the fundraising campaign, along with student prizes that can be earned prior to packets being sent home. Please review the packet of information for details when you receive it if you are interested. The last day for collection will be February 15.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration for the 2023-24 school year is happening! Registration opened on January 23. This is for any student that will turn 5 years old before August 1, 2023. To register, please bring a copy of the child's birth certificate, proof of residency (electric bill, trash bill, etc.), and copy of immunizations to our office. Please spread the word to any families with a child this age. Please call 636-583-3152 with any questions.
