HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome to 2021!
We were so excited to see the return of our students on Tuesday, January 5th. We are looking forward to a great second semester! As we concluded 2020 we all had fun in the holiday spirit and are most grateful for your support and proud of the students for their generosity during the toy drive helping to spread much cheer to many families. It was great to bring such an unusual year to a close in a positive way.
As we welcome in a New Year and semester we are also excited to welcome in a new food service, FRESH IDEAS. During the first week they offered delicious meals with new and tasty menu items the students as well as adults enjoyed. Common expressions when getting breakfast and lunch this week was, "Did you see this food?" "Did you taste this food?" Our students were even recommending to teachers. We encourage everyone to give it a try!
Menus can be found at:

As always, please know we are always grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your children. If we can ever be of assistance, we are here for you!
Sincerely,

LIBRARY CORNER
First we would like to extend a huge shout out to everyone who voted to help support our Youth Coding League’s Team Eagle! Thanks to you, Team Eagle placed 1st in the competition! Members Huda Alkilani, and C.J. Pobst each won a cash reward!
Another student in our Youth Coding League, Na’Quayvious Turner, won our school’s Most Improved Player award and earned a cash prize as well! Na’Quavious showed perseverance this year in coding and kept trying no matter what. He even came in to do extra work on his projects before school and during any free time he had during the day. Way to go, Na’Quayvious!
This first week back to school our students are completing an Hour of Code in their computer classes. Students are moving beyond block coding and also expanding their typing skills as they create their own apps! Students can continue this year’s Hour of Code project at home or choose from any of the other programs available on our school’s website at 56.sikestonr6.org/hourofcode.
Our Mark Twain reading program continues! Students are encouraged to read at least four of the twelve nominees in order to be eligible to vote for which book will receive the prestigious Mark Twain Award. Every time they read a book and pass on the AR quiz they get a prize from our treasure boxes. This year’s list of contenders is fabulous and each book on the list is sure to please! Students have until March 10th to meet the eligibility requirements and earn an invitation to the Pizza Party we’ll have at the end of the year.
Students may also have noticed some new crewmates hanging out in our Library. We definitely have READERS Among Us! Students will be receiving information soon in the Library Google Classroom about ways they can do specific reading or library tasks to earn a special fun reward.
Until next time…..
