Shawnee High School
A Note From Guidance
We are fresh into 2021, which means any negativity from 2020 may still be lingering. It's easy to forget about the good in our lives, whether it's big or small. We want to focus on bringing back the good and spreading kindness at Shawnee High School. Think about the expression, "It's nice to be nice." The week of February 14-20 is Random Acts of Kindness Week. Send us your stories and/or pictures of your random acts of kindness. Let's make kindness the norm!

Scheduling for Next Year
Here is what the scheduling process looks like:
- The school counselors have been presenting in English classes about the Course of Studies and Course Requests Form
- Students will bring signed form back and meet with counselors during English class the first week of February
- Students will put in requests on the computer with counselors
- Teachers reviews requests and provide course recommendations
- In the spring, parents receive a verification letter with student courses for the following school year as well as notification if a course has not been recommended by a teacher
- Counselors are contacted to request schedule changes
Tips for scheduling classes:
- Talk to the teachers about what level would be an appropriate course (ex. Chemistry or Advanced Chemistry?)
- Pay attention to graduation requirements and honors diploma requirements
- Want to go to college? Plan to take college preparatory classes
- Look at scheduling as a four-year process. See how the schedule fits into a four-year plan.
Our add/drop policies are changing next year and there will be few schedule changes. Take the time to discuss next year's schedule, plan strategically, and ask questions!
Spring Play
Attention staff members: There will be an open dress rehearsal on February 25th at 7pm to see the play for free. Contact Ms. Hirn if you're interested in attending!

With the help of exercise guru Rumpel Stiltskin and the Big No-Longer-Bad Wolf, they may stand a chance, but only if the Narrators can remember how the story goes. Apollo Career Center
Apollo Career Center offers more than 20 career-technical programs that take two years to complete. The students have the opportunity to experience hands-on training and college prep academics to prepare students for their futures after high school. Students from eleven area districts attend Apollo , giving students the chance to meet new people, be exposed to a diverse population, and meet peers who share the same goals and interests. To be admitted to Apollo after their 10th grade year, students need a minimum of eight credits: two English credits, two Math credits, one Science credit, one Social Studies credit, and two additional credits (Health, Fine Art, etc.). The 411 Blast Day allowed our students to tour two programs of their choice, helping them to decide if Apollo may be right for them. Students can apply at any time on the link below.
