Educator Fellows of New Mexico

Educator Fellows is a two-year program managed by the New Mexico Public Education Department. The program uses funds made available through the American Rescue Plan Act to promote two major goals:

1. Create a new teacher/educator pipeline for elementary schools in New Mexico.

2. Improve adult to student ratios in classrooms as the state recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Educator Fellows Program will create opportunities for those interested in becoming educators by providing resources to districts and state charter schools. These resources will help fund recruitment and retention of Educator Fellow positions, with the ultimate goal of creating a workforce of highly trained and prepared teachers.

Educator Fellows will serve to provide small group targeted support to meet the academic and social emotional needs in the classroom. This can be done in one classroom, across a grade level, or support needs across the school. This decision is made at the local level to meet the needs of each individual school. Ed. Fellows will be required to enroll in a post secondary program up to one semester after the date of hire. The Ed. Fellow has autonomy to choose the University or Community College that best meet their individual needs. Ed. Fellows will be required to attend quarterly professional development provided by the program beginning in August of 2022.

Educator Fellows are hired by local school districts and charter schools who are participating in the program. The Educator Fellow becomes an employee of that district or charter school. Please see the attachment below that lists the participating districts and schools as well as the number of Ed. Fellows awarded to the respective district or charter school.
