Just a few more days until September 5th, which is our first day of school for the 2023-24 school year. We hope to see you all at the upcoming Open House on August 30th from 5:30 to 7:00. This is a meet and greet in order to make introductions and see the building. I will also be holding an optional presentation at 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30 in the auditorium, new families are highly encouraged to attend.
To help you get started this year, please review all pages carefully in our Back-to-School Guide.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up
Parent drop off and pick up will take place on Butler Drive by the flagpole. This is also the pick up and drop off location during the school day and for after school activities. The cafeteria entrance off of Wolf Road is for School Buses only.
Once they are dropped off, students should walk up the sidewalk to the cafeteria entrance by the bus drop off.
All buses will drop off by Wolf Road and students will enter the cafeteria.
Students being dropped off after 7:30 will need to press the door buzzer in the foyer of the main entrance and office staff will allow the student in. Students getting picked up during the school day will need a prior request made by their parents. Students will then be released when the parent/guardian arrives.

Meet the New HMS Staff
Brady Fischer-Business Education
Hello, my name is Brady Fischer and I am so excited to be a part of the School District of Waukesha where I'll be teaching Business Education at Horning Middle School! I graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in 2021 and this will be my third year teaching Business Education. For the last two years I taught High School Business Education in the La Crosse Area before moving and I can't wait to start teaching at the Middle School level here at Horning!
A little bit about me is that I grew up in Wausau Wisconsin where a lot of my childhood was spent camping up north and on the lake. Outside of school, I enjoy watching sports (go Bucks and Packers!). I love traveling, being with friends and family, going outdoors golfing, boating, snowboarding, and hiking. Lastly, I like to try out new recipes in the kitchen along with seeking out local restaurants, so if you have any suggestions please let me know! I'm looking forward to getting started and meeting all the wonderful families, students, and staff in the School District of Waukesha!
Lacy Ritzka-Family and Consumer Science
My name is Lacy Ritzka and I am very excited to be teaching Family and Consumer Education this year at Horning MS. I previously taught ELA and Social Studies before taking several years off to raise my two daughters, Sophie (7) and Elise (5). I cherished every moment I had at home with them, but both of my children are in school full time so I am ready to get back in the classroom full time as well.
In my spare time, I love to cook and I can’t wait to pass that love on to my students as well!
My other passion is traveling and am always planning someplace interesting to visit. I’ve been all over the world and enjoy learning about the history, cultures, and food of new places. Ask me where I’m going next, I love to talk about my travel plans! I am looking forward to new beginnings in the Waukesha School District and the opportunity to teach in the classroom again.
Thanks and see you soon!
Alexandria Gerber-French
My name is Alexandria Gerber, and I am excited to be a part of the Horning community. I am the new French teacher at Horning as well as at Butler-. I grew up in Waukesha, and I love the community here. I have a masters degree in education, and I am looking forward to teaching where I went to middle school. I have worked with students in a variety of ages, from young elementary through college.
When I am not at school, I enjoy walks in my neighborhood or at local parks with my husband and our daughter, who just turned one, and the occasional sewing project. I'm looking forward to the school year!
Lauren Prazuch-Tenaglia-Psycologist
Hi! My name is Lauren Prazuch-Tenaglia, and I am excited to be joining the Horning community! I have worked as the school psychologist at Banting Elementary the past three years, so this will be my 4th year in the district. Before that, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Journalism at UW-Madison, followed by graduate school at UW-Whitewater.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. This usually includes going on walks with our dog, Camper, exploring new, local restaurants, sitting on the Memorial Union terrace in Madison, or cooking new recipes I find on Food Network.

Dress Code and Attendance Reminders
Dress Code: Click here to review the Dress Code policy outlined in the middle school student handbook for more information:
A brief description of several areas are below:
Hats, bandanas, hoods, & other headwear are not permitted
Hoodies must be worn with the hood down
Clothing should completely cover the chest, midriff and buttocks
No undergarments should be visible when standing or sitting
No strapless, off the shoulder or low cut tops allowed at school
Any clothing, jewelry, body art, or any accessory advertising alcohol, tobacco or other drugs are at a counter purpose with district AODA programs and therefore deemed inappropriate.
Attendance:
Attendance is extremely important.
Our school wide expectation is that every student is arriving to their scheduled class on time prior to the start of class bell. This will ensure that active learning time is maximized and students are receiving the best learning environment possible.
Students have 3 minutes to transition from one class to the next. This time should be used to prepare for their upcoming class.
Students are able to access their lockers before school, before lunch, after lunch, and at the end of the school day. Students should be utilizing these opportunities to prepare themselves for their early/late classes.
Please do your best to make sure that your technology (iPad) is charged and ready to go at the start of the day. This will ensure classroom time is maximized for learning.
Cell Phone:
The School District of Waukesha has in place a cell phone policy that requires cell phones to be placed in their locker upon entering the school building. The phone should be turned off and left in their locker until they leave at the end of the school day.
Thank you all for helping support us in a successful school year. Working together we can accomplish great things.
