- you cannot supply food to other children that are not your own
- kiddos and adults are not permitted on the stage unless given permission by staff
- please encourage your children to continue to follow school rules while you are visiting
These are rules across campus to keep all children safe, and must be followed by all visitors.
Bookfair!
Teachers cannot force your children to purchase specific items at the bookfair. If you send your child with money, or give them electronic money via eWallet, they are responsible for their own purchases, including books and other trinkets available.
You may visit the bookfair with your child during lunch one day this week, or at another time during the school day - check with your child's teacher for the best time for this.
TEKS we will focus on this week:
K.2 Developing phonological awareness - what is a word?
K2biv Identifying sight words
K2E Handwriting
We will be continuing an exploration of letters through Letter Camp, focusing on R, S, T, U, V.
Name-writing is essential, and we will be working on handwriting through exploration of our names for the next few weeks - exploring lowercase and uppercase letters, pencil grip, and different mediums for writing (crayon, marker, pencil, etc.), as well as naming different strokes (vertical, horizontal) and learning about proper writing position.
We are continuing to launch our Writing Workshop model, with a goal of gradually releasing into independent work when we begin reading stations.
We are continuing to launch our Reading Workshop and will begin to build in-class book boxes to practice good reading habits. We are encouraging exploration of books in safe ways - please help us by letting your child "read" to you at home in addition to reading to them. We talk about the three kids of reading - reading the words, reading the pictures, and retelling in our own words.
TEKS we will focus on this week:
K.2H Use Comparative Language
K.2B Read, write, and understand numbers to 10
K5 Algebraic Reasoning
We will be exploring numbers continuing through 10, focusing on 6-10 this week. We will practice writing them, identifying them, and seeing them represented in different ways.
In addition, we are working on the skill of rote counting forwards and backwards to 30, with and without objects for representation.
TEKS we will focus on this week:
K.3C Critical thinking is used in scientific problem solving.
K.1A&B Conducting classroom and outdoor investigations.
K.2A-E Ability to ask questions and seek answers.
We will conducting experiments and using our science journals to track predictions, record observations, and more.
We will begin exploring our 5 senses within the experiments that we do in class.
We will bring these two concepts together through an ongoing apple investigation throughout the week, culminating in an Apple Tasting Day on Friday!
TEKS we will focus on this week:
K.8 Identify Authority Figures
We will continue to learn school and classroom expectations and rules, and create visuals for our classroom to remind us how we should and should not act with our peers, adults, and others at school and in our community.
We will begin to focus on authority figures in our community, school, and class, and talk about what that means in relation to rules and who makes them.
