A Message from the Principal
Hello ALMS Families,
Welcome to this week's edition of our weekly newsletter! We are beginning our winter sports season as the days grow shorter (but only for a short time). Good luck to all of our student-athletes and coaches!
We want to remind families that Students cannot receive food deliveries at school. If your child has left their lunch at home, contact the school, and we can make arrangements through the cafeteria to ensure they are not hungry. Unfortunately, we cannot receive and distribute deliveries during the day. If you need to drop off lunch for your child, 8th-grade lunch is at 11:03 am, 7th-grade lunch is at 11:54 am, and 6th-grade lunch is at 12:45 pm. Please consider these times to ensure they can eat with their classmates.
Next week, tickets for Bongo's Bingo will be sold at $2 each for all 7th graders during their lunch period. Make sure you purchase your tickets while seats are available! We will also see our student council set up their Holiday Boutique during all student lunch periods! Stop by to see all the gifts you can purchase! And finally, there will be a movie night for the 6th graders on December 11th by the student council!
Lastly, we want to inform you that the district now has "Type to Learn" available for all students. This program will help students become more acquainted with a computer keyboard to better type on the New York State test. To access the application, students must log into their Chromebook or any device, log into ClassLink with their nredlearn account, click on the "Type to Learn" icon, and continue their progress.
Warm Regards,
Camille Edwards-Thomas

Secondary Social Studies Faculty Attend & Present at Regional Conference
Teachers and leaders from our middle school continue to be very active in the regional social studies community. On December 7th, four of our faculty members traveled to the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff to attend the annual conference held by the Westchester Lower Hudson Council for the Social Studies. The theme of this year’s conference was Building Bridges: Past, Present and Future. Teachers were very excited to experience professional workshops and network with colleagues from all over the Hudson valley region to share ideas about how to better support and enrich the lives of students. They took part in a broad array of professional development opportunities including: Objects of the American Revolution: Interpreting Artifacts as Primary Sources, Memories of Imprisonment in a Japanese Internment Camp: Sam Mihara in his Own Words, and The People Who Discovered Columbus: The Tainos People and their Culture in the Caribbean. Ms. Bongo and Ms. O’Reilly offered that they were particularly intrigued by the workshop on the uses of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and how it can be utilized in positive ways to enhance student learning.
This year’s conference was attended by Ms. Mary Bongo, Ms. Colleen O’Reilly and Ms. Blake Loscalzo. Mr. David Luhman, the ALMS Humanities Chair, also presented a workshop on Three Strategies for Improving Reading, Writing and Engagement in Social Studies for grades 6-12. All of the attendees are looking forward to sharing what they learned at the conference with the rest of the ALMS Humanities Team so that all of our students can benefit from the faculty’s participation in this professional conference.
