Bulldog Bulletin
Week of December 6, 2022
Dear Bulldog Families,
The holidays are a wonderful time of the year. In addition to family time and traditions, the holidays signal the end of the semester on December 21. I would like to direct your attention to a few items as we approach that date:
· Attendance-Students are allowed 9 unexcused absences per semester. If you child has exceeded limit you should have received an attendance appeals packet in the mail. The appeals packet allows you the opportunity to explain the reason(s) for your child’s excessive absences. Please be sure to return your appeals packet to our Dean’s Office no later than Friday, December 10. We have a committee that will review your appeal and determine if we can waive any of your child’s absences. Students in excess of 9 unexcused absences who do not submit an appeals packet will automatically fail the semester on attendance even if they are passing the course academically.
· Missing Assignments-The greatest reason that students fail courses at Melbourne High School is because they have not completed and/or submitted the required assignments for their course(s). Please be sure to check FOCUS for missing assignments and contact your child’s teacher to see what can still be completed and submitted for credit. Partial credit on a late assignment is always better than no credit at all!
· Semester Exams-All students will take semester exams from December 16-December 21. The exam schedule is posted in this newsletter for your convenience. Semester exams comprise 20% of the semester average for your child’s courses, so it is important that they are prepared and take their exams seriously. Students who spend some time each night reviewing tend to perform better than students who try to “cram” a semester’s worth of information the night before the test.
Thank you for supporting Melbourne High School.

EFSC INFORMATION
EFSC Exams:
EFSC exams will be the week of December 6 – 9. Make sure you know the exam schedule for your particular classes. The exam schedule is different than the regular schedule.
Textbooks/Materials:
Once you have completed all of your exams and classes you need to return your current textbooks/materials to the media center. Even if you received your materials through a voucher and filled it at EFSC, you must return it to the MHS media center.
After returning your current materials you can then check out the textbooks/materials for spring term. Remember PLAN AHEAD! DO NOT wait until classes start to get your textbooks!
EFSC Text Book Instructions
- You will need to PRINT your EFSC student detail schedule and bring it to the MHS Guidance office.
o How do I view or print my class schedule? Begin by logging into my EFSC > Select EFSC Titan Web > Student Services > Registration > Student Detail Schedule
- We will give you a stamped colored copy of your EFSC Schedule to give to the media center.
- When you return your current EFSC textbooks to our media center AND you have your colored copy of your student detail schedule you will be able to check out text books for the next term.
o Your visit to the media center will go faster if you already have your required materials list. You can access that list here: Find Textbooks | The Eastern Florida State Bookstore - Cocoa Campus (bncollege.com)
o Some materials are provided electronically. You will know if this is the case when you print your required materials list. Under Course Notes: there will be a statement that begins, “Access to course materials is within the course…” – If you see this statement you DO NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING. On the first day of class your materials will appear in Canvas, opt in or do nothing. DO NOT OPT OUT EVER! You will be responsible for the cost of the materials if you opt out. You do not need anything from our media center for these courses.
o If your required materials list shows “w/ACCESS” “Math Lab” or something similar OR we do not have the book on our shelf you will need to request a voucher from Ms. Oswald.
- The EFSC bookstore is open to fill vouchers
o Vouchers are issued for any textbooks that we do not have on the shelf or require an access code. Vouchers will take 24 – 48 hours for MHS to receive them THEN you will have to take the voucher to EFSC to fill it. PLAN AHEAD!

Student Incentive Program
The student incentive program is going great! Teachers and staff give out tickets to students that have done something the exemplifies what being a Mel High Bulldog is all about!
In addition to the items we have for them, such as t-shirts and water bottles, they are loving the gift card choices. We are running low on the initial donation of cards (Thank you!!) and would really appreciate donations to help keep our gift card option available. They seem especially fond of Starbucks and Dunkin' cards.
Donations can be dropped off in the main office. Please label the items: Attention – Mrs. Kilmer
If you have any questions, please contact me at: kilmer.cindy@brevardschools.org
Thank you in advance for any donations you are able to provide!

Covid-19 Information
UPDATED QUARANTINE INFORMATION
Health and Safety
Stay home if you are sick: We ask our families to keep children home if they exhibit any Covid-19 symptoms for the safety of our students and staff. It is the most important thing you can do to help us mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on our campus.
What do I do if someone in my home contracts the Covid-19 virus? Please call the principal at 321-952-5880 x24503 if your student, or someone living in your home, contracts the Covid-19 virus. If you are going to quarantine your student, we will help you determine the correct dates for quarantine.
Clinic Policy: During the pandemic, any student sent home from our school clinic with Covid-19 related symptoms must quarantine for 10 calendar days unless (1) the student receives a negative Covid-19 test and brings the printed result to the school nurse or, (2) the student's family physician diagnoses the student's condition as something other than Covid-19 and writes a note allowing the student to return to school.

You may want to ask your student to take a picture of the pass on their phone and they can show that to the teacher in case they lose the paper pass.
