Farm to School Newsletter
October 2023
Farm to school month is a time to celebrate our local farmers by encouraging local foods in schools! Taste-tests are a great way to introduce new produce to students. We are working with our school gardens to teach kids about where their food comes from and how it grows. Click the photo for resources and see below for highlights of our farm to school program!
September Recap
Buckley
The pop-up farmers market at Buckley was a huge success! Thank you to all our vendors who attended the market. We were able to donate three bushels of apples and a few other goodies to the Buckley food pantry after the market. See below for smoothie recipe.
Courtade
Potatoes were the highlight of September at Courtade. Students harvested over 46 pounds of purple potatoes! They also harvested carrots, pumpkins, radishes and more! The students then saw those potatoes in our first taste test of purple potato salad. Click the photo for the potato salad recipe.
Northport
Northport students had a bountiful harvest of kohlrabi, sungold tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, yellow and purple potatoes, and garlic. Keep an eye out for these veggies in your cafeteria this October.
Suttons Bay
We had a great time at the pop-up farmers market at Suttons Bay this year! Thank you to everyone who participated. If you enjoyed the smoothies made by students on the smoothie bike, see below for the recipe.

If you haven't heard, each year thousands of participants from schools, education sites, and other organizations sign-up to participate in Apple Crunch Day. Students all take a bite of their apple at the same time for one big crunch! This year it will be held on October 12, but anytime in October your crunch will still count! Click the photo to register.
