12/12/21
Pride,
Congratulations, we've made it to the final week of school. To celebrate these final five days, we've turned them into spirit days for our staff and students.
- Monday: Candy Cane Lane: Wear Red and White
- Tuesday: Jolly Holiday: Wear your favorite holiday shirt
- Wednesday: Hawaiian Holiday: Wear your favorite vacation gear or Hawaiian shirt
- Thursday: Polar Express Day: Enjoy the day in your PJs (school appropriate)
- Friday: Going Out onto Winter Break, In-Style: Ugly Sweater
I'll keep this week's message short (to make up for the recent long posts). As we close out the first half of the year, we wanted to take this time to say "thank you." Thank you for the faith and trust that you have in Riverwalk Academy and in our team. It truly is an honor and privilege to do what we do each day. We hope you and your family enjoy your winter break. Stay safe and stay healthy. We too are looking forward to our break where we can relax, reflect, and reenergize for the new year.
On behalf of the Riverwalk Academy faculty and staff, Happy Holidays!
~Dr. Compton

COVID-Related
We're asking that our families assist us in managing everyone's status by using this form when your child shows symptoms, tests positive, is a close contact, or is a household close contact. The data shared with us is kept confidential. After completing this form, you'll receive an email or phone call from Nurse Donna to discuss your child's specific isolation/quarantining plan.
Linked here is Riverwalk Academy's COVID Dashboard. This COVID dashboard is updated by 3:00 pm each school day. This dashboard can also be found on our website.
We've received a few questions about our dashboard, so I wanted to provide an explanation for everyone. Click here for an explanation of our COVID data.
School Lunches
Riverwalk Academy is a "bring your own lunch" school where students are encouraged to bring their own lunches. We do offer a fee-based lunch program that is not income-contingent. Our fee-based lunch program is provided by Golden Corral. For more information about this option, please click here.
Pride, if you haven't done so, please take a moment to check out our new and improved website. From the main page, you have immediate access to the latest news, and up to date calendar.
Elementary Guidance with Mrs. Carr
As always, I hope everyone had a wonderful week. Mine was full of highs and lows. I would like to focus on the highs. Our students did fabulous taking the End of Course exams, staying quiet for the testers and were all around great Lions. Dr. Compton writes a parent newsletter every Sunday (obviously, lol) but what most of you may not know is that he also sends out two staff emails each week, Sunday and Wednesday. This is part of how he likes to lead, he doesn’t feel we should spend wasteful time in a meeting when he can share information in an email. Part of each email has “Shout Outs.” We also have a channel for anyone to do shout outs to all the staff - anytime they like. I gave one this week - to our administrators. They deserved it! They handle situations, in the open and behind the scenes. They stop things from getting out of hand at school.
I would like to give all of you a shout out. Parents, grandparents, all the caregivers, you all need a shout out. Raising children has always been the hardest, most rewarding job in the world. I have three adult children and two more that are students at Riverwalk. Raising them all, I have discovered that it has gotten harder and harder as the world has grown, technology has grown and social media has grown. All my children have been exposed to things I couldn’t have imagined - school shootings, world unrest, bombings, and a pandemic. For my two youngest, if you add on social media, games that connect you to strangers it can all be terrifying.
We all deserve a shout out! We are surviving. Riverwalk is a strong family and we are all raising the children together. But that is the most important word - together and we can do it - we can raise the children to be successful, smart, loving, caring and positive contributors to society.
I want you to know how thankful myself and all the staff are for all the smiles and waves during arrival and dismissal. We are thankful for the respectful way you behave during meetings, whether they are good news, difficult or just catching up. We are blessed by all the donations, gifts, cards and good notes you put on facebook. You all get a huge shout out!
I know from personal experience, life is full of challenges, highs and lows, but with the support of our school community, family, and friends, it isn’t as hard. Stay positive everyone. Enjoy the ride and remember if you need any help, I am here, our administrators are here, our teachers are here. Riverwalk is here for you all.
This week I get to do so many lessons - I know it will fly by. I can’t wait to see the final few classes do their Compli-Mittens. I can’t wait to see what the older kids decide to include in their Merry Messages. I can’t wait to see all of the costumes, pjs and fun events scheduled for this week. Make sure you check out the schedule (posted in this newsletter) of each day’s theme.
Have a terrific week!
If any of you know someone that may not get this newsletter, please tell me, Dr. Compton, Mrs. McCray or Dr. Dempsey so they can be added to the mailing list. We want everyone to be able to read our news.
Hugs!
Mrs. Carr
Middle/High Guidance with Ms. Menges
Happy Sunday!
We are finally at our last week before break! I will say as excited as I am, I am also definitely going to miss everyone as we have a gap of time apart over the next few weeks. As Christmas approaches, I just want to encourage everyone to spread some cheer this holiday season. Think of something you, your family, or your friends can do to show kindness over the break. Bake some Christmas goodies for your neighbors, go caroling, make cards for police officers or firefighters in your area. There’s endless amounts of opportunity! I love to see you guys show kindness around Riverwalk and would love for it to expand past these walls into the community as well. Here’s what you can keep in mind as we go into this week…
Things to know:
-8th grade families, PSAT scores were sent home with your students last week. Please reach out if for some reason they did not make it home :)
-10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, I am still in the process of finishing up make up IGP meetings.
-All middle/high students, from here on out, if anyone wants to drop, add, or change any courses, they will need to complete a drop/add form (these can be found in my office or at the york tech office). Once the form is completed, it will need to be turned into me for review.
-If your student missed any EOC test last week, they will be making them up this week. Let us know if you have any concerns.
-EVERYONE have a fabulous Christmas break!!!
Ms. Menges
