A Wrinkle In Time Community Read During the Month of February!
Join HTMS students and teachers during the month of February in a community read of the book A Wrinkle in Time, before the movie is released on March 9th! Participating students will meet in the library on February Mondays before school to discuss the book, and community members will meet online on the Facebook page "Trussville Reads!" We would love to have you join us - Search for the group and grab a copy of the book! #htmsreads
Barnes & Noble Holiday Spirit Day was a Huge Success!
HTMS celebrated a Spirit Day at Barnes and Noble at the Summit in early December... It was a great success! Band and choir students performed for shoppers in the store, and our library raised $800.00 for new books through your purchases. Thank you, Trussville!
Writing Club Putting Finishing Touches on Manuscripts to be Published!
The Writing Club is finishing their manuscripts this week, and is beginning to transfer their writing to their publishing packets. Books should be sent to the publishers next month! I am so excited to see the final products - we will have short stories, a novel, a recipe book, poetry, and some beautiful artwork. So proud of HTMS's writers! #htmswrites
10 For the Win! HTMS Continues its Reading Challenge!
Students and teachers have been challenged to read 10 books by the end of Spring Break this year. Our total number of books read has been steadily growing, and I could not be more proud! Teachers have been sharing the titles they have been reading, too - showing students that we ALL can step up our reading game. Look for our school total to be shared in the April edition of The Library Lowdown!
Cardboard Architects Abound on Cardboard Construction Mini-Course Day!
Mini-Course Day was the last school day of December, and students in the library sketched, designed, measured, cut, and assembled cardboard projects of their choosing. A lot of careful thought, troubleshooting, and redesigning took place that day. Very proud of the commitment these students showed to a functional final product!
December Circulation Data Down Just a Smidge From Last Year
December's circulation data was down just a bit from last year, 47 books less, a -4.23% change. We always have a drop in circulation during December, as we only attend for half of the month. I'm not quite sure what caused the drop from last year... We changed our policy to allow students to take their books home over winter break so that they could continue reading, so I would have expected our number to go up??? Regardless, January's checkout data already looks like it will make up the difference... Time to snag some more readers and promote some good books!
New Books!
eBooks Wherever You Are!
Your student can access HTMS's eBook collection wherever they can access the Internet. Just go to MackinVIA's website, log in, and browse! You can either view the book in browser when you are on WiFi, or download the book to view later when you don't have a signal. To log in, use our school's name and your child's Chromebook login. Happy Reading!
