Principal's Message
In many ways it feels like more than a week ago that we released students three hours early for impending snowy conditions. Although snow didn't fall that afternoon, I was glad the district made that call as it was comforting knowing our students and staff were able to make it home safely. I don't envy the decisions the district office had to make this week. In the end, I think they made the right call to close school each day this week.
Our custodial staff was able to make it most days to the building and I was able to make it in yesterday. Aside from a little flooding due to a leaky furnace on the third floor, our building held up great and we didn't have any significant damage from the storm. Below are a few pictures I took yesterday afternoon. They don't due justice to the amount of snow and ice that was in our parking lot, our stairs or ramps leading to classrooms.
There aren't too many updates for this upcoming week, other than the important information I've highlighted below. We appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding as we scramble to pack as much into this final week before the end of Quarter 2.
Stay warm and safe this weekend,
Mr. Roosevelt
Weekly Update
Update on Parent Conferences
We've made the decision to postpone family-teacher conferences this week so we can hold our Winter Dance Showcase this Wednesday from 7-9pm. Our staff is voting this week on whether or not we will hold them on 1/31 & 2/1 or 2/7 & 2/8. Once we know what works best for our staff we will get messaging out to families. Regardless of the date, the format will remain the same as was planned for this week. We apologize for all the changes to the schedule, but that happens when we get this type of weather.
Winter Dance Showcase - This Wednesday!
Our Winter Dance Showcase has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 24th. The show will start at 7pm. Student's performing will be in an all-day pullout on Tuesday in preparation for the show.
ALL Semester and Year-long dance classes will be showcasing their work in a high quality, professional environment with the help of their teachers and our professional design team. Each year the dance department collects a suggested $10.00 donation for the dance performances to help offset the cost of costuming all of our dancers. With multiple costume pieces per performer, there are hundreds of costume pieces per show.
Please make your donation on SchoolPay under “Winter Dance Costume Donation”. Any additional money your family can donate for the cause would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your support!
MAPs Testing
Our final round of MAPs testing will be this Friday. As a reminder, all students take the MAPs assessment which provides our teachers and support teams with standards-based grade level data. Please make sure your student charges their computer Thursday night and brings their computer Friday morning.
2-Hour Late Start
Given the many disruptions due to the snow storm, we have asked the district to allow us to move this work to February and hope for an answer to our request before Monday. Please stay tuned.
