As we honor the proud history of Valerius Elementary, we’d like to invite Urbandale families, staff and community members to participate in a drive-thru “Sweet Treats for Sweet Memories” experience at Valerius Elementary.

In your goodie bag you can expect one cookie per person, a QR code that will take you on a virtual tour of Valerius, and an article on Valerius history. Please stay in your vehicle and drive through to pick up your bags. If biking or walking to Valerius, please practice social distancing and wear a face mask while waiting for your sweet treat.

As you pick up your treat, you are invited to leave a written wish for the new school building. Your wish will go into the Valerius wishing well. These wishes will be shared when the new building opens in 2023.

Thursday, May 27th- FIELD DAY (RAIN DATE: Tuesday, June 1)

**This event will run in one hour chunks of time. Mr. Larson and Mrs. Irvin will be running this event to allow teachers time to pack and work in their classrooms)

Student Legacy Event- More details to come but this will take place during the last few days of school. We meet as a team again on Tuesday to finalize some details.

Friday, June 4th- 5th GRADE PROMOTION- 1:45pm live streamed

As the new Olmsted prepares to open in the fall, there is another shuffle of staffing that will take place across the district. Each new building will have their own art, PE, Music, and guidance teachers. The library teachers will continue to be shared between buildings. With that being said, we will be experiencing some shifts here at Valerius as well.

For PE/MUSIC

Jane Emery Becker and Sara Cullinan will work with our K-2 students. Jane and Sara will be our PE/MUSIC team when we open Elementary School #2. They will also continue to serve all of Karen Acres.

Dustin Larson and Joelle Irvin will continue to work with our 3-5 students for the next two years. They will also continue to serve all of Rolling Green.

ART

Becky Baack will be full time at the new Olmsted.

Michel Schmida will be serving Karen Acres and Valerius over the next two years, and will be full time with us when we open Elementary School #2.

GUIDANCE

Melissa MacGregor will continue to serve as our guidance counselor over the next two years. At this time we have 5 elementary guidance counselors, so we will be working over the next two years to determine how staffing assignments will be made for ES#2 for this program.

LIBRARY

Melissa Marwedel will continue to serve as our teacher librarian. Mrs. Marwedel is split between KA, Valerius, and RG at this time. We will be working over the next two years to determine how staffing assignments will be made for ES#2 for this program.

The 8th Annual Brad Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament will be held this summer on Monday, June 28th at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston, IA (pictured above). The name of the tournament is now “UEF Alumni Golf Tournament” because of its joint sponsorship by the Urbandale Education Foundation (UEF) and the Urbandale Alumni Association.

All money raised for the tournament will go towards the UEF education grants to support UCSD teachers and scholarships to support UHS seniors.

Dear Parents of future 6th, 7th & 8th Graders,

Ordering is *now available* for school supply kits through 'SchoolKidz/Teacher Tailored' for NEXT year (2021/22)! See the attachment for more information. Please visit www.shopttkits.com and enter our school's code "84484". Simply place your order anytime between May 4th and May 28th to have all your child’s necessary supplies delivered right to your house by the week of July 25th! ORDER NOW before you lose out! The kits contain everything identified on the school supply list for next year with these notable exceptions:

1) guitar picks (triangle, med/heavy thickness) - 7th/8th grade only, required for music class. Must purchase separately

2) PE attire - Must purchase separately

3) lanyards & PE heart rate monitor straps - these are recommended, not required. Must purchase separately.

4) agendas - school will provide

5) tissues, disinfecting wipes & hand sanitizer - The PTO is asking for donations of these items for general classroom use. Simply send them to school with your child to give to their advisory teacher or drop them by the office and we will see they get to where they are needed.

Register Today! Student Registration For The 2021-22 School Year

School registration for the 2021–2022 school year is underway! Families with students in kindergarten through 11th grade currently enrolled in the district received an email mid-March with instructions for online registration. For families without email, a letter will be mailed to you in April with instructions for registering your student(s). Once the email/letter has been received, families are welcome to register their student(s) through the online registration process. Ideally, we’d like to have all students registered for the 2021-22 school year by June 4.

Student Registration:

• Preschool Students—if your child will be 3 years old or 4 years old by September 15, 2021, click here for specific information about registering your preschool student.

• Kindergarten Students—if your child will be 5 years old by September 15, 2021, click here for specific information about registering your kindergarten student.
