SOL Testing Schedule & Reminders
Spring SOL Testing is quickly approaching for our 3rd through 5th graders. Please see the schedule for which date your student(s) will be testing. Below are a couple of reminders for SOL Testing:
Please ensure your student is here on the designated testing date and on time. Students who are late will not be able to test on the same day as the remainder of their class or group once testing has begun.
Students will have the entirety of the day to complete their SOL test. If a student is picked up early, before they have finished their test, they will not be able to resume the test at another time. Please ensure students are here for the length of the school day on which they will be testing.
For any SOL testing questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Jackson at mjackson@glnd.k12.va.us
Go Nutz For Reading
If your child turned in a completed bookmark for the Go Nutz for Reading program, then please mark your calendar for the Flying Squirrels game at the Diamond on Wednesday, May 31st (gates open at 5:30 and the game starts at 6:35)! Students who completed the program will get a free ticket to the game, and are invited to participate in the on-field parade before the game (more information to come closer to the game date). Families can purchase additional tickets to the game for $10 using the link below. Ticket sales are a fundraiser for our school, and each ticket purchased benefits Byrd Elementary reading programs - so invite your family and friends to join us for a great night out at the ball field!
GCPS Health & Wellness Night
Want a chance to be principal for a day? Students who attend our GCPS Health & Wellness Night will be entered into a raffle to be principal for a day!
GCPS is hosting a Wellness Fun Run for our Goochland Community on 5/10/23 from 5PM-7PM at the GHS stadium. The purpose of the event is to promote health and wellness among students, families, and staff. We'll have food trucks, games, bouncy houses, and door prizes. We'll also have various community organizations there to help connect families with resources. Participants will also be able to participate in a 1-mile "fun run" with colored chalk.
GCPS Intersessions
Looking for something fun to do this summer? Several Byrd teachers and staff are leading classes at GCPS intersessions! Learn more about the specific course offerings at the link below.
Registration for the Goochland County Public Schools June intersession is now open until Friday, May 26! An intersession is an opt-in, multi-day learning experience that combines literacy, research, creativity, and fun with no cost to families. Each intersession will provide a unique learning opportunity that merges student interest and teacher passion. From Cooking with STEM to Game Design, students will have the chance to explore a wide range of topics.
Intersession will run Tuesday-Friday, June 20-23 from 8:00 - 2:30 at Goochland Elementary School (elementary sessions) and 9:00 - 3:30 at the Secondary Complex (secondary sessions). GCPS will provide student transportation to and from designated stops across the county at no cost and breakfast and lunch for purchase. Transportation will only be provided at the beginning and end of a full day of intersessions. Students attending a half day intersession will need to make arrangements for mid-day transportation.
Registration is based on the student’s current grade level (2022-23 school year). Please understand that availability of these sessions is contingent on enrollment numbers. Sessions may not be offered if enrollment is low, so we encourage all to register soon! In the event that a course reaches student capacity, students will be added to a waitlist automatically.
Visit https://gcpsintersessions2023.coursestorm.com/ for a complete list of course offerings and to register!
If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to our Intersession Coordinators at intersessions@glnd.k12.va.us.
