This Week at Royal
May 17 - 23
Happy Sunday, Falcons!
The end of the school year is looming! It's been a long year filled with frequent pivots, but our staff, students, and community were flexible and successful despite the uncertainty!
The picture on the left highlights another beautiful creation from our talented Advanced Floral Design students!
The special May 30 "This Week at Royal" will contain all of the end-of-year awards and accolades, which are still being compiled, so make sure you don't miss that issue!
Have a great week!

COVID Vaccine Opportunity for RISD Students!
Over the course of the school year, Katy ISD and Royal ISD have been working with healthcare providers throughout the region to provide opportunities for staff and eligible students to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, should they be interested. As you may be aware, this week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for ages 12 and up. Royal ISD extends its thanks to Randall's and Katy ISD for including us in this opportunity. #SleeveUp
On Wednesday, May 19, Randall’s Pharmacy will offer an optional vaccination opportunity to Royal ISD students, 12 years of age and older, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Agricultural Sciences Center (5801 Katy Hockley Cut-Off Rd).
The vaccination will be available free of charge. A valid student ID, along with a completed parent consent form for individuals who are 17 years of age or younger, must be presented. To schedule a vaccination appointment for your child, and to access the parent consent form, please use the following link: https://mhealthsystem.com/KatyISD.
Please note that Randall’s Pharmacy has only scheduled the May 19 opportunity at the Agricultural Sciences Center at this time. The pharmacy plans on administering the second vaccine dose in the series on Wednesday, June 9 in the same location.
Royal ISD students are not required to take the COVID-19 vaccine in order to participate in District activities and/or programs.
Should you have any questions about the optional COVID-19 vaccination available for students 12 years old and above, please contact covid19response@katyisd.org or (281) 396-7499.

Investing in Our Tomorrow: Community Advisory Committee
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) held its third meeting on May 11, 2021 at Royal STEM Academy. Attendees enjoyed a meal from Hinze BBQ that was generously sponsored by Live Oak Public Finance. The meeting allowed attendees to get a first-hand glimpse of the needs at Royal STEM Academy.
Associate Superintendent Kendra Strange, Ed.D. expressed her appreciation for the committee. "The students of Royal ISD are so fortunate to have a group of dedicated stakeholders come together for the purpose of improving our educational facilities. Whether it be in a classroom, cafeteria, gym or library, or other area, most of our students spend the majority of their waking hours within a school facility. When we think about it in those terms, it becomes more important than ever to ensure that our students spend those hours in a safe, functional environment. It is our sincerest desire as a district to continue to partner with our community to collectively develop a plan that will serve our students’ educational facility needs for years to come. We would like to say thank you to everyone who has played a role in these conversations so far and also welcome other community members to join us as we strive to have equity in representation of all members of the community we serve."
Interested in Joining the CAC? If you would like to attend future meetings, please send an email to cginn@royal-isd.net to receive CAC communications and updates. Click here for more pictures.

FEMA Funeral Assistance
People who need aid covering the financial costs of funerals for loved ones who died of COVID-19 may be eligible for up to $9,000 in assistance from the federal relief legislation enacted in March. Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA is providing financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020. Please CLICK HERE to learn more and to apply. Visit Funeral Assistance FAQ for more information.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused immense grief for so many people,” Acting FEMA Administrator Bob Fenton said in a statement. “Although we cannot change what has happened, we affirm our commitment to help with funeral and burial expenses that many families did not anticipate.”
Be advised, FEMA already has received reports of scammers reaching out to individuals claiming to offer help to apply for this funeral assistance. If anyone contacts you about this program before you have personally registered for aid, it is a scam. FEMA will not contact people prior to registration.

Scam of the Week: Credential Scam With a Clever Twist
If you try logging in to an account, but get a “wrong password” error what do you do? You’ll probably try typing the same password again. But if that doesn’t work do you try another one of your passwords? Then another, and another? Cybercriminals have a clever new scam that takes advantage of this exact behavior.
You receive an email with a link to view an important document. If you click the link, the document looks blurred-out and is covered by a fake Adobe PDF login page. If you enter your email and password, you’ll get an error stating that your password is invalid. This page allows you to try a few more times before eventually blocking you from viewing the document. But the truth is, there was never a document to view. Instead, the cybercriminals saved your email address and every password you tried to use. They can use this information to try to log in as you on other websites.
Don’t be fooled! Remember these tips:
- Remember that any site, brand, or service can be spoofed.
- Never click a link in an email that you were not expecting. If you’re not sure, reach out to the sender by phone to confirm the legitimacy of the email.
- Always use a password that is unique to that specific account. This way, if your credentials are stolen, the cybercriminals can’t access your accounts on other websites.
