Please Join Us for Community Workshops: Nov. 2 or 4
After hosting three well-attended charrettes where over 470 community members engaged in active discussion of facilities solutions, the Community Engagement for Facilities Project Team (“Project Team”), led by MIG, received over 50 ideas to help come up with a long term solution to house Bullis Charter School. We invite the community to consider these options and indicate their level of support for each idea during the next stage of the public engagement process at upcoming workshops. Please check our community engagement webpage on Friday, November 1 after 12pm to review the workshop materials.
Please join us for one of the below workshops:
Saturday, November 2
Open House: 9:00-9:30am
Workshop: 9:30-11:30am
Egan Multipurpose Room
OR
Monday, November 4
Open House: 6:00-6:30pm
Workshop: 6:30-8:30pm
Blach Multipurpose Room
Each workshop begins with a 30 minute open house for participants to review information. Both workshops will have the same format, so please only attend one workshop.
Thank you for actively participating in this important process. We have provided answers to many of the questions asked during the charrettes here. If you have any additional questions, please email us at communityengagement@lasdschools.org.
Design Challenge Showcases Students' Creativity
This week, students from all of our schools participated in a fun STEM Design Challenge: the Egg Drop! Students used their creativity to design contraptions that would help a raw egg survive a drop from the top of their school roof without breaking. Often a project for high school physics classes, our STEM ISTs adapted this project for our elementary students.
Some innovative designs I saw when visiting campuses were strategically utilized balloons and intricate boxes filled with various materials to soften the blow of the egg's landing on the concrete.
Our STEM curriculum is integrated into everyday classroom lessons to help students connect science, technology, engineering and math to every day life and hands-on activities. Take a look at a few photos below of the design challenge and the following video to learn more about STEM in our elementary schools.
Fires and Air Quality
If air quality worsens, we will take immediate precautions to keep children indoors and notify our community. We monitor various sources, including purpleair.com, airnow.gov and baaqmd.gov, if you'd like to check the air quality periodically yourself. We also use this chart from the California Department of Education to determine plans for our students' safety and outdoor play with regard to the current air quality conditions.
Thank you for your partnership and cooperation as we work together to keep students safe.
