TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 6
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
I am excited to announce that our School Mental Health Counselor is on campus starting next week. Even at the elementary school level, some students need a little more support, encouragement, or a good chat with an adult who is willing to listen to them or provide good conversation.
Did you know that OSES has a total of eighty-nine employees that support your student? Approximately fifty percent of the staff is support, and the other half teachers. While the teachers do spend the majority of the time working with your student, each of them works with a team of support staff to ensure student success. Ms. Brahmbhatt works with students in small groups who need additional support, Ms. Greenan ensure support is given to students who are gifted and/or have special needs, Ms. Galindo helps all teachers incorporate STEM in the classroom, Ms. Hooker provides support academically to all sixth grade teachers, Ms. Salazar prepares the cafeteria several times a day to ensure a clean and safe lunch area. These are only a few names that you probably don’t know but who provide support to your student daily.
The two most important things a principal can do is to hire good people, and to make sure each of these people have what they need to do their job. We are fully staffed, the staff have what they need, and we are ready to support your student at OSES.

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Lamour
Mrs. Lamour’s class has been working to become scientists as they built a tower out of cups and index cards and discussed their observations! They all worked as a team and presented their creations to the class.
In math, they have been exploring the concept of addition by breaking objects into two groups and practicing their number writing to match the group of objects. I can’t wait to see the great work we will be doing next week!
FIRST
Nickerson
Ms. Nickerson’s class has been working on creating SMART goals for the school year. The students thought long and hard about an academic goal they and to achieve by the end of the school year and wrote it down to remember throughout the year.
We are also helping prepare for Hispanic Heritage Night by learning about and decorating Sugar Skulls! The students are so creative!
First Grade has sent home the Summer Reading Cereal Box Project rubrics! Please make sure they are turned in the week of October 2-6!

SECOND
Yeaman
Mrs. Yeaman's second graders kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month by making a collage that showcases famous Hispanic people. We also started completing a project researching different Hispanic countries and are enjoying learning about their culture and important contributions. In Science we finished up our unit on matter by completing STEM rotations. Students worked in groups to investigate whether items sink or float, measure the different lengths of objects, and worked to follow the engineering design process to make a bubble wand.
THIRD
Astacio
In Mrs. Astacio’s Class the students have been working on POETRY! Using collaboration and their own creativity, the students were able to create amazing Limerick and Haiku poems!
We also had a lot of fun learning about the different Properties of Matter!
The students participated in center rotations and put into practice what they have learned about Mass, Volume, and Texture!
In Math we have been learning many different strategies to help us memorize our multiplication facts!
FOURTH
Blaske
In Ms. Blaske’s science class, the students have been learning about the properties of matter. They rotated through stations and completed activities to help them understand some different properties of matter. First, they compared the mass of different objects. Next, they measured the volume of irregularly shaped objects. Then, they tested how the poles of magnets repelled and attracted. Lastly, they went fishing to find what types of objects were magnetic.
FIFTH
Saucedo
Mrs. Saucedo's class continued presenting their math projects. Some students created math board games that involved comparing, rounding, and estimating decimals, and others researched everything about manatees and shared interesting math facts in expanded form, in words, and in standard form.
In science, our class explored content related to the properties of matter. Students used different tools to find the mass, temperature, and volume of different materials. We also investigated which materials dissolve in water and what conditions speed up or slow down the dissolving process.
SIXTH
Zarate
This week in science we worked on the process of science. We completed an Oreo cookie lab and a Taki lab. Students have also completed a quiz and will be working on finishing this unit next week. Students should also be working on their science fair journal check two. We will begin our next unit on cells soon.

September is Respect
There are many occasions throughout the school year when students may make a special effort to respect their parents, grandparents, teachers or other caregivers in their lives. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day and so on are all special days. However, students should realize that every day is a day to respect these important people.
Respect means to have regard or consideration for others.
At school, this means respecting our staff and following our school rules. I am looking forward to seeing examples of respect throughout our campus the rest of the month!
