International Day
El Rancho Charter School’s annual PTSA-sponsored International Food Festival will be held on Wednesday, February 26th. Students will gather in the cafeteria to taste cuisine from around the world and celebrate their diverse cultural backgrounds, and we need your help! We need donations of ethnic food dishes and water and volunteers to help serve food throughout the minimum day (7:00 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.)
Food and water donations should use the following guidelines:
- Please bring in a minimum of 24 bite-size, pre-cut sample portions (like Costco).
- All food must be in a disposable/non-disposable dish with a serving spoon (if needed) with the student’s name clearly marked on it. Dishes must be picked up by 12:10 p.m. on the day of the festival.
- The food ingredient label provided must be attached to your dish.
- Non-perishable food may be dropped off at the school office the day before the festival.
- Food may also be brought to the cafeteria at 7:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. the day of the festival (use the link to choose your time on the sign up).
- Each case of 8 oz. bottled waters earns one service hour. Please write the student’s name on the package.
PTSA is also looking for parent volunteers to help during the school day. If you're able to donate food, water, or your time, please use the sign-up genie https://signup.com/go/ytMAQrR
International Day Door Decorating Contest
El Rancho's 3rd Annual International Door Decorating Contest is underway! ASB is organizing a door decorating contest to support PTSA’s International Day. There are three categories that classes can enter under:
- most creative
- most colorful
- most informative
Classes will decorate their classroom door to represent any country, culture, or city. The judging will take place during 4th period on February 25th by a panel of judges (three ASB students and three staff members). Every class that participates will receive a tub of licorice. The winning door from each category will win a cookie party AND 100 class points! Second place classes will earn 75 points, and our third place classes will earn 50 points!
Winners will be announced on International Day!

Eco-Heroes
For their second semester challenge the Eco-Heroes have decided that they would like to try to reduce plastic waste by encouraging a TRASH FREE Tuesday at El Rancho during lunch. More information will follow, but they wanted to share their “why” statement with El Rancho!
We are the El Rancho Eco Heroes, a group of four 7th grade girls, operating from a science classroom at El Rancho Charter School in Anaheim, California. Our team discovered, "The mass production of plastics, which began just six decades ago, has accelerated so rapidly that 8.3 billion metric tons have been produced to date. Of this, only 9 percent has been recycled; 6.3 billion metric tons have become plastic trash. "(Plastic Pollution Coalition). We care because we believe that using single use plastic is very wasteful and harmful to our environment.
The Eco-Heroes are competing through a program called Grades of Green. The purpose is to empower students to lead an environmentally sustainable future. Thanks for your help!
Robotics
The El Rancho Robotics Team hosted their 2nd Annual VEX Robotics Tournament on January 25th. There were 30 teams that competed. All three of the El Rancho Teams made it into the Finals! This event is a also a fundraiser for the team and could not have been done without all the parents support, the outside volunteers and our El Rancho Staff. The Robotics Team would like to give a special thank you to all the help and support from Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Hail, Mrs. Romero and Ms. McIntosh. They also attended and helped run the event the entire day! We received a lot of feedback on how amazing our facility is and that is was a favorite tournament for many teams!
As with most things, there are also wonderful community businesses that donated to this school event. A big thank you goes out to the following businesses for their generous donations - Bristol Farms, Corner Bakery, Pavilions, Ralphs, Staples and Starbucks.
Tournament season is getting close to wrapping up and all three teams are busy preparing for the State Finals in March! However, this past weekend, The AlphaBots competed in Porter Ranch on Saturday and won the Skills Competition and took 2nd in Alliance Driving! With their new skills score they are ranked 3rd in California! Coming up on February 15th, The Misfits and The Pack will compete at El Camino College. We are rooting for our El Rancho Teams in their final events! Good luck to The Alphabots, The Pack, and The Misfits!
