Quality learning for all in a caring community.
Kounga ako mo katoa i roto i te taiao e atawhai ana.
Dear Parents and Friends of our school Kia Ora/Hello/Kamusta
Kia ora koutou,
This isn't a newsletter week but we have lots of information that we wanted to share this week :)
FRIENDS OF TOKO SCHOOL
Welcome to the Friends of Toko School (FOTS).
Each year our school community support our school by participating in a variety of events/activities that are fun, sociable and supports your own children's school experience at our great school. Some of the events/activities raise money and others support the school curriculum and general running of the school. We really encourage all of our school families to get involved and to get to know other families in our school.
"Together everyone achieves more"
Our committee meet once or twice per term, term time only and our sub committees meet as required. We are on the lookout for new parents to join our committee and for each family to indicate which events/activities that may be able to assist with during 2024.
Can you please fill in this form to indicate how you can help out during 2024:
We require parent helpers for this great school fundraiser. This will involve selling or cooking food or helping with registrations. If you can lend some time to volunteer for this please email: office@toko.school.nz
We also have a few other things we need help with?
Does anyone have access or know how we can get a couple of power poles?
Who can help with a working bee closer to the trail bike ride to help build a bridge?
Does anyone have any walkie talkies we can use on the day?
Can someone donate a roast lamb cooked or uncooked?
If you can help with any of this please contact the school office.
Scholastic Book Club
The book club order forms have been given out to the children today and they are due back at school by 20 February.
A FEW REMINDERS/REQUESTS
- Brain Break Food - At about 10 am each day the children are allowed to have healthy snack in the classroom. The type of food they are allowed to eat during this time is fruit, vegetables, nuts, popcorn etc.
- The only drink children are allowed at school is water. Water bottles are encouraged to be brought to school and used during the day in the classrooms.
- We are looking for someone, to assist us with the bees, who may be able to become a bee mentor. If you can help out please give us a call.
RURAL CLUSTER EVENTS
At the end of 2023 the Rural Cluster met to review the events we held this year.
As a result of this review the following changes will be occurring for 2024:
Tabloid Sports will now be Year 3 - 4 only. This day can be quite overwhelming for our Year 1 and 2 tamariki.
Schools will hold their own cross country. There will be no rural cluster cross country. Schools will send tamariki direct to the Central Schools Cross Country.
Schools will hold their own athletics competition. We are going to investigate a Central Schools athletic competition - competitive only.
Debating has been taken off the calendar of events.

BOARD UPDATE
We are Smoke/Vape Free
We would just like to remind the community that our school is vape and smoke free. We have had occasions when adults have come onto the school grounds inside and outside of school hours with vapes in particular. We are smoke/vape free 24/7.PHONES AWAY FOR THE DAY
All schools are now required to ensure children do not use phones at school. This has not been allowed in our school previously. However this is a timely reminder that if your children do bring a phone to school, that parents contact the classroom teacher to tell us and explain why and that these are handed in immediately to the classroom teacher. We would expect that very few children would need to bring a phone to school.
