Positive Culture and Climate for Our Central Elementary Students
The first two months of school help set the tone for the entire school year. We have been intentional at the start of this school year to create a positive culture and climate for our students. Below you will see several examples of how we have set the tone this year to be a building that cares about each other, treats each other with kindness and respect, and doesn't tolerate harassment and being mean to each other. We continue to work on our culture and climate every day with our students, teaching and re-teaching expectations, just like we do with reading, math, science, and social studies. Our goal is that every single student feels comfortable and safe to come to school.
As parents and guardians, you are often times aware of information that we may not have knowledge of. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, counselor, or us (building principals) if you have concerns about harassment or other behaviors that may be making your child feel uncomfortable, unhappy, or unsafe.
We are here to help and support, however we can. Your children are important to us and we want nothing but the best for them. As is always the case, please reach out to use if you have any concerns or questions.

Grade Level Meetings W/ Building Principals
- treating each other like a family
- being kind to each other
- working hard and doing their wildcat best
- growing their brain
- no toleration of harassment and bully
These were our important, non negotiables, that we wanted our students to know and to start learning the first week of school.
Second Step Instruction From Our Counselors
The Second Step program teaches our students the important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe,
respectful place where everyone can learn.
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are using the Second Step Bullying Prevention
Unit. In this unit, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
• Recognize when bullying is happening, report bullying to a caring adult, and refuse to let bullying happen
• Be a bystander who helps stop bullying
• Support someone being bullied by standing up for that person and being kind and inclusive
• Recognize, report, and refuse cyber bullying when they see or know about it happening

Buddy Classrooms
Buddy classrooms are an awesome way for our older students to model and set good examples for our younger students, for our younger students to be more comfortable being around the older students, and for our students to have fun with other grade levels. So far this year, some of our buddy groups have made apple sauce together, spent time getting to know each other, and have read to each other. Our kids really enjoy spending time with their buddy class.
