• Friday night is the Goochland home football game to celebrate our students who participated in the summer reading program. Students who turned in a form for reaching their reading goals will bring home a prize bag this week. The prize bag will include a free ticket to the game and also a coupon for cotton candy! Registration for the Goochland County Public Schools Fall intersession is now open until Monday, September 25th! An intersession is an opt-in, multi-day learning experience that combines research, creativity, and fun with no cost to families. Each intersession will provide a unique learning opportunity that merges student interest and teacher passion. From Be a Disney Imagineer to Just-in-Time SAT Prep, students will have the chance to explore a wide range of topics.

Intersession will run Monday-Friday, October 16-20, 2023 from 8:00 - 2:30 at Goochland Elementary School (elementary sessions) and 9:00 - 3:30 at the Secondary Complex (secondary sessions). GCPS will provide student transportation to and from designated stops across the county at no cost and breakfast and lunch for purchase. Transportation will only be provided at the beginning and end of a full day of intersessions. Students attending a half day intersession will need to make arrangements for mid-day transportation.

Registration is based on the student’s current grade level. Please understand that availability of these sessions is contingent on enrollment numbers. Sessions may not be offered if enrollment is low, so we encourage all to register soon! In the event that a course reaches student capacity, students will be added to a waitlist automatically.

Time is running out to register for Girls on the Run! Our season starts September 25th and spots are limited. Sign up today!

We are excited to offer Girls on the Run again this fall! Girls on the Run is an after-school program that focuses on the connection between girls' physical and emotional health. The program teaches girls important life skills all while they train for a 5K!

Coaches work with students twice a week for ten weeks using targeted lessons and physical activity to instill confidence and compassion in each girl. Our team will meet Mondays & Wednesdays after school starting on September 25th. Transportation is not provided. Students can register for either team 1 or 2 (we will still be one team!).

Students should not be in school if they have the following:

• A fever of 100.4 degrees or greater
• Vomiting or diarrhea because of illness
• An unknown rash or possible contagious condition
• Are unable to focus due to: pain, chronic health condition and acute illness
• Flu-like illness (with or without fever) – headache, fatigue, cough, aches, weakness and sore throat
• COVID positive result- student should remain home for 5 days from first symptom (recommended masking for 5 additional days upon return to school)

Please be prompt when picking up your ill or injured child in order to minimize his or her chance of spreading or acquiring a contagious illness.

A child should be free of symptoms of contagious disease (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, suspicious rash, etc.) for 24 hours without the using of fever reducing medication before returning to school.

• Monday October 16th through Friday October 20th: Intersession week (optional for students). School closed.

If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. This allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal.The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
