Celebrations
College Board National Recognition Program
We’re celebrating our own Luke Nichols, one of 72,000 students from across the country who earned academic honors from College Board’s National Recognition Programs! He received the National Rural and Small Town Award. The National Recognition Programs honor the strong academic achievements of underrepresented students. They’re an easy way for students to showcase their hard work in high school. The programs not only benefit students. They also benefit colleges looking to recruit diverse, talented students.
There’s so much that makes students like Luke unique, that’s an asset to colleges and programs. The National Recognition Programs help students like Luke find ways to celebrate their achievements. Eligible students apply on BigFuture. They have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. They’re the top 10% of PSAT/NMSQT® or PSAT™ 10 assessment takers in each state for each program or have earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP® Exams. They either attend school in a rural area or small town, or identify as African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, or Indigenous/Native. They’re invited to apply during their sophomore or junior year. Students who are awarded recognition will be notified at the beginning of the next school year.
Congratulations, Luke!
Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans who trace their heritage to Latin America or Spain. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period.

SAT & PSAT Study Materials Online and Free
Students can get free study plans on their phones and on the web by linking their college board account with SAT Practice from KHAN Academy. Last year sophomores and juniors took the PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT respectively. They should have access to create study plans using their PSAT scores from last year. Studying for the SAT or PSAT for just 10 minutes a day can provide significant opportunities to improve scores.

Medicine at School
If a student must take medication during school hours, the student’s parent must provide the medication. All medication, whether prescription or nonprescription (OTC), must be kept in the nurse’s office and be administered by the nurse or another authorized district employee. A student may self-carry his or her own medication because of asthma or a severe allergy as allowed by law. Except as provided by FFAC (LOCAL), the district will not purchase medication to administer to a student.
