AVA Family Update

AVA Family UpdateMay 5, 2023

Good afternoon AVA Families,

We have another standard schedule next week and it is pictured below.

We have reached the mid-point of the trimester, and progress reports will be posted next Wednesday. I also have important information for seniors below.

The usual guidance update is below, and our community updates include important information on Fee for Service Busing and a Special Education meeting. For those who are returning to AHS in person next year and want to be included in busing, this is vitally important.

I thank you for your time.

Senior Info: Two Things

1. Below you will find a link to the Senior Events and Graduation information. Please read it carefully. Please note that AVA students will be able to pick up their caps and gowns during the House 4 timeframe. I will be reaching out to all senior students and families individually next week to make sure we are all on the same page.

2. AVA Exit Survey
The AVA Senior Exit Survey is ready! Please log into your attleborops.net email first and then click HERE to find it. We ask that seniors please have it completed by Wednesday, May 24th. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Standing Item: Academic Honesty

I began in September with my warnings about plagiarism, and the particular temptation it offers virtual students. Over the past months, the AI chatbot issues where students submit computer generated writing pieces have been a real issue. The technology at the time certainly advantaged students who were looking to take shortcuts. Fortunately, the technology to defend against such activity has caught up, and we are now flagging assignments that are caught by the systems. Submitting AI generated responses will be dealt with the same way we have dealt with plagiarism. Students, please know our tolerance for this will be quite low going forward. Do your own work, please.

Guidance Update

Grades 9-11 - Summer Programs/Courses

Want to expand your knowledge and/or academics this summer? Many colleges and universities host summer programs and opportunities ranging from machinery operation skills, to writing seminars, to STEM courses, and much more! Check HERE for a list of the many different opportunities available.

Grades 9-12 - NCAA Registration

This is another kind reminder to students and families who are interested in participating in collegiate sports to register online with the NCAA. Although you may register even after high school graduation, we recommend doing so while still enrolled in high school to ensure a smoother transfer of school records and information. AVA's CEEB code for NCAA registration is: 220067.
