Principal's Message
Sierra School needs 2 parents to join our School Site Council. The School Site Council is intended to be a decision-making body that represents all stakeholders of our school community. The school principal, teachers, other school personnel, and parents make up this group. Their primary responsibility is to identify common goals and assist the leadership team in establishing a plan to meet these goals. The key to success depends upon a good working relationship with all members of the council. Each member shares their unique perspective and knowledge of the school's needs, as they affect all students during our meetings. We will be meeting twice this year, in November and February. Please e-mail me if you are interested in being part of our School Site Council: rphillips@pusdk8.us
Halloween is Monday, October 31st. Students will be allowed to wear costumes to school that day. We do expect the following costume guidelines: No masks, nothing scary or gory, no weapons or props, no inflatable costumes (like the giant T-Rex), and all costumes must meet our dress guidelines. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Have a great weekend!

Library News
Hello Dragons,
What a fun week we had in the library. This week we read the newly released book Creepy Crayon written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Peter Brown. This is the third book released in the Creepy series about Jasper the rabbit finding a purple crayon that helps him get A+’s but starts to take control of all of Jasper's work and art. Jasper finally gets rid of the creepy crayon and learns that if he studies he can do good in class. This week Novel Effect was also introduced to the students. This wonderful app plays sound effects for the story read. Both were a huge hit with the classes. Soon we will have a bluetooth speaker for better sound effects. AR prizes are going out next week as we ran into shipping delays on some of the prizes. The Scholastic book fair will be here soon Oct 29th-Nov 4th! If you are fingerprinted and can volunteer please send in your slip so I can add you to the schedule. Remember, good things happen when you read!!

Hammer Headlines
Students are enjoying their October skill of football. Primary students are using small nerf footballs and practicing throwing and catching. They are also throwing the football into a net. We continue to do the skillastic workouts, animal game, red light green light, parachute, and ring around the rousey.
Third to fifth grade students are catching and throwing a choice of either foam nerf football, junior football, or intermediate football. Each football has a different weight and size. I leave it up to each student pair to decide their level of challenge. Along with the skillastic workouts students are also playing bulldog, capture the flag, and parachute for their cool down activity.
