7th Grade Families - Next Year’s 8th Grade Families
Please save the date, Saturday, October 15, 2022, for PSAT 8/9 testing. All 8th grade students entering Libertyville High School or Vernon Hills High School in August 2023 are encouraged to participate in a Saturday, October 15, 2022 administration of the PSAT™ 8/9 (Preliminary SAT) at the high school they will attend. Specific information and instructions for students will be mailed from each school as the next school year begins.
The SAT is a college entrance exam that is now required by the State of Illinois for all 11th grade students as the high school accountability measure. The PSAT™ 8/9, is the first exam in the SAT Suite of Assessments. Tightly aligned with the SAT and the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), it establishes a baseline for college and career readiness as students enter high school and also helps them to become familiar with the format of the SAT. The PSAT 8/9 is designed for eighth- and ninth-graders and will provide an additional data point to support the high school placement process. Students will take additional tests in the SAT Suite as they progress through high school to help prepare them for the SAT during junior year.
If you have questions about the placement test prior to receiving information from the high school your student will attend, please feel free to contact the school coordinators.

Celebrating OGS Track Victories
This past weekend members of the OGS track team had a fantastic wrap-up to their regular season at the sectional meet at Johnsburg High School. Overall, Eagles placed as individuals and as relay teams in twenty events.
After a first place performance throwing 110’ 9” for discus, eighth grader Jack Treutelaar will be representing OGS at State next weekend. Congratulations, Jack! Other highlights include second place finishes in both the 100m and 200m for Matthew Liu, second place for Jack Treutelaar in shot put, third place for the 8th grade girls 4x400 relay for Tatiana Valdez, Gigi Lund, Olivia VanHeirseele, and Vik Tijunelis, and third place for the 7th grade boys 4x200m relay for Daniel Samper Garcia, Rye Servatius, Colin Waddell, and Liam Fedie. At the close of the event, our 8th grade boys also took 5th place overall in team points. Three cheers for our amazing Eagles!
Our Eagles had lots to celebrate during the previous week at the Lakeside Conference as well. Oak Grove boys won the Eighth Grade Champion title for earning the most team points. Some key performances included first place wins for James Liu in both long jump and 110m Hurdles, Blaise LaVista in the 200m Dash, Jack Treutelaar in both shot put and discus, and for the boys 4x200M team. The girls additionally had lots to celebrate with a win for the 7th grade 4x200M team and for Kailynn Kilpatrick on 100M hurdles.
The track coaches would like to send a thank you to all the amazing athletes for their hard work and dedication throughout the season and to the parents for their flexibility and support.
Calling for All OGS Athletic Uniforms
Whether you just finished up your track season or know you have an OGS basketball jersey in the closet from fall (or maybe even from before COVID days), we are looking to collect all borrowed OGS athletic uniforms. All uniform shorts and jerseys can be dropped off with Ms. Bulley in the junior high hallway (Room 205). Thank you!

All for Books Challenge for Reading Power
Thank you to all who shopped at the Spring BOGO Scholastic Book Fair!! A special thank you to everyone who volunteered to work the fair and to Mrs. Osterman for allowing the PTO to use the Junior High Library! The OGS community was extremely generous with their All for Books donations! As a community, OGS raised over $2,400!! With these donations, Reading Power was able to take home 132 books from the BOGO Scholastic Fair for their classrooms in Zion, Waukegan and North Chicago. The remaining funds will be used by Reading Power to support their literacy tutoring program. Congratulations to Ms. Bernsee, Mrs. Koehler, Mrs. McCarty, Mrs. Sobey, Mrs. Honaker and Miss Cole's classes for raising the most money during the All for Books Challenge! These classrooms will enjoy popsicles parties this week to celebrate!
Old School Forest Preserve Clean-Up
Don’t forget that this Sunday is the family clean-up event at Old School Forest Preserve. We will be helping LCFP clear buckthorn, pull garlic mustard, and pick up sticks (ideal for smaller helpers). Volunteers are welcome to stay for any length of time, but LCFP asks that all volunteers report at 10:00 am to go over the directions. Bring gloves and wear appropriate clothes and shoes. LCFP will provide all needed tools, including goggles that are required if brush cutting. We will be meeting at Shelter A & B (see map here); there will be signs to direct volunteers.
