Board Update
A recap of the work session held on November 4, 2020
During the November 4 board meeting, there were presentations about how our schools have been adapting, discussions around plans for preschool, inclement weather, strategic planning, and the district’s five-year forecast.
Student Services Director, Rebecca Johson, presented considerations for the 2020-2021 Preschool Program. The board will receive a draft plan at the meeting on December 2, with a goal of approving the final plan on December 16, 2020.
Mr. Enix discussed preliminary plans for dealing with inclement weather. With the current morning and afternoon sessions, a two-hour delay isn’t practical. Students would shift into remote learning on days with inclement weather, and the decision would be made by 5:30 a.m. Communication to parents and students will be provided through School Messenger, social media, and local media outlets. A final plan will be sent directly to parents in the coming weeks.
Treasurer Colette Lewis delivered a presentation on the district’s five-year forecast. Even with $1.8 million in cuts for the current school year, the district is expected to face expenses that outpace revenues as early as FY2021. Lewis recommended the district begin developing an operating levy strategy with the goal of being on the ballot no later than November 2021.
More details can be found in the presentations from the Superintendent and Treasurer below.
