Pork Lunches are Back-- A Note from Our School Nurse

Jensen families, we have recently reintroduced pork into our school lunches. We recognize that some families hold a religious belief that they should not eat pork, and we want to give you the opportunity to notify us of this. Please contact Allison Fisher, school nurse, at 515-457-5853 or fishera1@urbandaleschools.com to have your student put on this list to get an alternative (pork-free) lunch. We are having pork on Tuesday, October 2. Please notify us before 9am on Tuesday so we can put your student on this list to receive the alternative lunch.

Guest Teacher Superheroes

Three students from fourth grade came up with an idea to create welcome bags for our guest teachers (substitutes). They worked hard to research cost, write persuasive essays, and schedule an appointment time with me to pitch their idea. PTO generously offered to sponsor this idea. Thank you to Hailey, Sara, and Blake for using your kindness superpowers!

Congratulations Jensen Superheroes!

Lots of positive things happening around Jensen. Adults are recognizing students for using their superpowers of KINDNESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, SAFETY, and LEARNING by handing out leadership tickets. Tickets are then collected in each room and a random name is drawn at the end of the week for a certificate and superhero bracelet. Congratulations to this week's winners!

Goal Setting Conferences

Fall conferences this year will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16th and Thursday, Oct. 18th from 4-8pm. Hosting conferences that are focused on setting goals for the year, is a great way to check in prior to the first progress report. I'm very excited that families will be getting progress information earlier in the year than in the past, so we can work together as a team to meet the learning, behavior, and social/emotional goals of our students!

Please note that you will not be receiving your child's progress report (report card) at conferences as you have in the past. Instead, you will be provided with two stars and a goal for your student(s) as they continue to work this year. Teachers will share about how things are going, what is going well, and what 1-2 things can be focused in on for improvement. Then, after the end of our first trimester, progress cards will be shared.
