The Lion Line
Volume 4 Issue 9 - April 2023
A Letter from the Headmaster
Dear Parents,
Buckle your seat belts, we are in for a busy ride these last two months! We are already feeling it these weeks following spring break. One upper school issue we have been busy with is the master schedule for next school year. We are always looking for more enriching electives we can offer our scholars. We hope to add a few this next school year. Another hot topic in upper school is the ability to provide some type of college credit.
As a Hillsdale College K-12 school, we are discouraged from straying from the set curriculum. So, it gets really tricky trying to allow any dual enrollment courses, unless our teachers can teach them on our campus, and teach the Hillsdale curriculum. We are exploring some options and will continue to do our best to offer some courses in the future.
Advanced Placement (AP) is a possibility as well. We are compiling a list of courses taught on campus by our teachers who are eligible to teach AP. This will boost their GPA and award college credit once they pass the AP exam at the end. More to follow on that one!
ALERT! If you haven't registered for the Sporting Clays Event on April 15th, please register today. I registered and paid for my foursome, and we are going to have a BLAST (no pun intended). Go to this link to register: https://lionscouncil.org/sporting-clay-tournament/
Finally, please help us recruit students for the Orange Park campus. While Kindergarten is full, grades 1-4 still have openings. Also, if you know of potential teachers or staff, please let me know.
Thank you so much for being a part of St Johns Classical Academy. We are reforming education in America - one school, one scholar at a time.
Lion Strong!
Mr. Johnson

Time to Pop It and Drop It
It's time to start collecting those pop tabs if you haven't already started!
The SJCA Interact Club needs your soda/pop tabs from aluminum cans. Please collect them, and bring them to your scholar's teacher. This fundraiser will run through May 5th, we will give the Lower School homeroom class and Upper School 7th period class with the most tabs collected (by weight) a pizza party.
**Minimum amount for a class to win a pizza party is 10 lbs. of pop tabs.**
These will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville, and they will be recycled for cash to help provide housing for families visiting Jacksonville while their children receive medical care. Thank you for helping us do the good!

Upper-School 2-D Art & Pottery
Mr. Ross' Art 2-D classes completed their Impressionistic style paintings of fish and landscapes this past January. We completed these paintings after several weeks of color-mixing practice.
In February upper school Pottery classes created replicas of cultural masks from around the world. They are made entirely by hand; no forms or molds were used. The Japanese Oni (devil) and Greek, African, and French replicas were popular. We also had a nice copy of a medieval plague doctor's mask.
4th Grade "Goes West"
"The fourth graders were a joy to work with and represented SJCA proudly. I have to shout out my Resource teammates and 4th Grade team for their generous flexibility and cooperation so the scholars could rehearse. It's great to be a Lion!" ~ Cassie Crosby, Department Chair of Fine Arts & P.E.
