National School Choice Week
Care for our community!
We KNOW our AZVA and ISAZ students Care for our community and we want to know how your family participates.
In 1994, Congress passed an act called the “King Holiday and Service Act.” This designated Martin Luther King Day (observed the third Monday in January) as a national day of service. It is considered a “day on, not a day off.” Students can participate in a variety of service activities to honor the memory of Dr. King and to answer his question, “what are you doing for others?”
- Help clean up a neighborhood park
- Volunteer at a local pet shelter
- Organize a food drive or used clothing/toy drive
- Find a local volunteer opportunity based on your interests
Whatever your family/student does let us know. We want to feature our students in action and track those amazing volunteer hours through the end of this year. How many service hours can our students volunteer through the end of this school year? CLICK on this link to share how your student has participated and how much monthly time they have spent volunteering in January.
Martin Luther King as an American Hero
On January 20th, we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday in commemoration of this American hero’s life and legacy. On this very special day, we honor the leader of our nation’s Civil Rights Movement, while rejoicing equality and freedom for all.
Throughout the year, there are many opportunities and occasions to honor heroes who inspire and make a difference in our lives. Want to have fun, use your “Mad” English skills, and customize a poem for that special someone? Just fill out the nifty “Mad Lib” poem creator and you are well on your way to making that special person feel appreciated. J
