Senior Class Updates
PSATs @ RMHS During the School Day!
- It is our hope that everyone had a successful first day back to school. It was great to have students back in the building. I will send out my first counseling newsletter this weekend, but I wanted to share this important information about the PSAT's as the College Board deadline is fast approaching.
- New this year, the PSAT will be given to all Sophomores and Juniors during the school day on Wednesday, October 18th. College Board switched to a digital platform for the fall PSAT’s and Spring SAT’s. To accommodate this change and ensure equal access for all students, we decided it is best to offer the exam during the school day. It is a two-hour and fifteen-minute exam plus additional time for administrative duties. The exam aims to measure reading, writing and language, and mathematical skills students will need to do well in college.
- We encourage sophomores and juniors to take the PSAT’s. Taking this exam is good practice for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which juniors will take for the first time in the Spring. Juniors, if you previously took the PSAT’s as a sophomore, we encourage you to retake the PSAT as a junior. Your junior scores are a better predictor of how you will do on the SAT’s and will help counselors when we start the college process in the Spring. Only juniors may use the PSAT as a qualifying test for scholarships that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation gives. Sophomores, this test is great practice for you as well and is one of the requirements if, in the future, you choose to participate in one of our dual enrollment college level classes.
- Should you wish to register, the exam costs $20.00. There is a two-step registration process. Step 1 is completing this registration google form. The deadline to fill out the google registration form is Sept 10th. Registering by this deadline (sooner if possible) is essential so we can make sure we order the right number of exams and have time to coordinate the logistics to register properly with College Board. College Board does not accept late registrations for this exam.
- Step 2: We are pleased to offer families the option of paying via MySchoolBucks (MSB), our new online invoice and payment system. If you would like the convenience of paying your fee on-line via ACH or credit card, click this to set up your MSB account if you don’t already have one: https://www.myschoolbucks.com. Please know there is an additional service charge for paying online. Once your account has been established, you will receive a reminder via email from MSB the week of September 11th of your PSAT fee. Parents who prefer not to pay online can send a check payable to the Town of Reading to the counseling office. The most important thing is to complete step 1 by September 10th to guarantee a spot.
- Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselor directly.
