School Quality Survey (SQS) - For Parents
Your feedback about our public schools is important to us. This year, we respectfully request a few moments of your time to complete the School Quality Survey (SQS), which measures your perceptions of the safety and well-being of your child and your satisfaction and involvement/engagement with your child's school. Your responses will be kept anonymous in order to gather candid information and will be used by schools for continuous improvement purposes. As a parent/guardian, this is an opportunity for your voice to be heard.
A parent/guardian may complete one survey per child. You may complete the SQS online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2022SQSParent or by scanning the QR code in this message.
Please read the survey directions carefully and complete the survey no later than March 11, 2022. Due to processing deadlines, there is no guarantee that surveys received after this date will be included in the Hawaii State Department of Educationʻs final report.
Should you have any questions about this survey, please contact us via email at SQS@k12.hi.us, or call (808) 733-4008 from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Thank you for your support and for helping to improve our public schools.
Sincerely,
Keith T. Hayashi
Interim Superintendent

HEPA Air Purifier Update
Every classroom in Waikiki School now has a HEPA air purifier as another mitigation layer towards keeping our students and staff safe. This $25,000.00 investment in keeping our school open during the pandemic was made possible with the use of American Rescue Plan Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funding.
Here is a short excerpt talking about the use of HEPA air purifiers in schools.
"The combination of HEPA air cleaners and universal masking was more effective than was either intervention alone. The use of masks without air cleaners reduced the aerosol exposure of the receivers by 72%, and the use of air cleaners without masks reduced the exposure by up to 65%. When used together, the HEPA air cleaners and masks reduced exposure to respiratory aerosols by up to 90%. These findings suggest that the use of portable HEPA air cleaners and universal masking can each reduce exposure to simulated SARS-CoV-2 aerosols in indoor environments, with larger reductions occurring when air cleaners and masking are used together."
Geographic Exceptions (GE) Period is Open
Under Hawaii laws, all persons attending public school are required to attend the school in the geographic area in which they reside. However, permission to attend another school may be granted by the Department.
For families looking for an exception, fill out the GE Application form, and submit to the home school (for new students) or current school for students who are already enrolled. (The home school serves the geographic area of the child's residence.) GE applications for the next school year shall be submitted between January 1 and March 1 to facilitate a decision before the end of the school year.
