As always, I am continuing to enjoy my time as the LCUSD 9 superintendent. I am leading truly dedicated staff members that continue to amaze me with their spirit, minds, and dedication to the children and community in Lebanon.
My pride as a Greyhound and purple heart continues to grow. Simply put, I love serving LCUSD 9 and the community of Lebanon!

πππCommunity Updatesπππ
I attended the Rotary meeting on Thursday, November 2nd at 6pm at the Lantern. I was the guest speaker for the evening. I enjoyed an amazing dinner and highlighted the school district. I had three focuses to share-Summative Designations (School Report Card), PLCs, and Blue Ribbon.
Our Greenhouse work did also get highlighted, and a garden club member offered to help support the Greenhouse in the future. I think having their landscaping expertise around the Greenhouse would be helpful.
The Rotary shared that they would like to help purchase something for the school between $25-$300. I look forward to continuing our work and conversations.
Additionally, we celebrated Dictionary Day with the Rotary and 3rd grade on Thursday, December 9th. Students were excited to receive and learn the history of Dictionary Day from our very own Mr. Jeff Thornton. Thank you, Lebanon Rotary and Delta Gamma Teacher's Sorority!!
On Friday, November 10th, I was invited to share our Blue Ribbon good news with Fox 2 News in the morning. It was an honor to highlight the national honor that Lebanon Elementary School received and stand next to our very own Mayor Wright.
πππ Collinsville Area Vocational Center πππ
I sit on the board of superintendents for the Collinsville Vocational Center. I attended a meeting there on Thursday, November 2nd. We currently have 3 students from Lebanon attending the Collinsville Area Vocational Center. I learned at the meeting that they are in the planning process of getting a new facility. With the addition of the new facility, there will be additional class offerings added-including Aviation Mechanics, HVAC, Renewable Energy, and Vet Tech. The addition of these classes will be determined by the plan for the new facility.
Landscape Management and Urban Agriculture are two classes that will definitely be added to the 24/25 school year.
At the start of our meeting, the cooking class made the superintendent board appetizers! It was really neat to see the students so proud of their work. At the end of the meeting, I was given a tour of the current facility and was able to see classes in session.
The CAVC Board is also working to increase CTE Funds in the state of Illinois. Currently, we are one of the lowest funded CTE states in the area. The goal is to increase the CTE Funding amount $10 million a year. Vocational trades are so very important, and LCUSD 9 is happy to support continued efforts for vocational programming!
πβοΈLCUSD 9 Committee Updates πβοΈ
The LCUSD 9 District Committees (Finance, Building and Grounds, and Safety and Security) continue to meet on a regular basis.
Our Finance Committee met in November and discussed the future estimated taxy levy that was presented at the November Board Meeting. I shared with the committee some basics on how the estimated tax levy for a school district is determined and the 2023 Estimated Tax Levy Resolution. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 6th. My plans for this meeting will be to review our internal cash flow document and share the 2023 Final Tax Levy Resolution for the December Board meeting.
2023 Tax Levy Estimate Resolution
Our Building and Grounds Committee met in November and discussed the progression of the Greenhouse and HVAC projects. The Greenhouse project has started and is underway. LCUSD is working with the ROE and city to get the project complete. We are currently looking into having the assistance from a performance contracting company to help us navigate our visionary facility plan for the district. The district is looking at three different performance contractors, including GRP/Wegman, Omni Energy Partners, and Veregy. There will be a special board meeting on Wednesday, December 13th for all three companies to share their vision and plans for our district. Our next committee meeting is Tuesday, December 19th.
Our Safety Committee will be meeting on Thursday, December 14th. The committee will be reviewing the continued efforts and suggestions from our Safety PLC to continue our safety efforts here in our district. We are also hopeful that our performance contracting teams will provide ideas and solutions to support our continued efforts for safety. Our team will be reviewing threat assessment board policy to be presented and approved at our December Board Meeting as well. Our next meeting will be in February.
