Algebra 1 Syllabus
Course Information
Welcome to Algebra 1! This course will focus on linear, exponential, and quadratic functions. We will be using resources from multiple sources throughout the school year. This course will cover the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Algebra 1.

In this academic course, the focus is on learning the foundation basics of linear, exponential, and quadratic functions.
Materials to be brought to class daily include:

TI 84 graphing calculator (one will be provided during class but it's beneficial to have one to take home)
Homework, Make-up Work, Late Work
Homework
Homework assignments are due per due date assigned in Google Classroom or by the teacher.
Make-up Work
Students have one day for each day of excused absence to make up homework, tests, and quizzes. Any work not made up within the allotted time will be counted late and may not be accepted. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain any missed work/assignments from Google Classroom.

Attendance and Tardy Policies
A student is considered tardy if s/he is not in class, seated, when the final bell rings. If you are late, you will be marked tardy and subject to disciplinary action according to PHS attendance and tardy policy.
1st Tardy= lunch detention
2nd Tardy=lunch detention
3rd Tardy= lunch detention and parent contact
4th and beyond= ISS (In School Suspension)

Students are encouraged to sign up through REMIND. Remind allows students to communicate with their teacher.

Grading Policy
Grades are not given; they are earned. Your preparation and effort will determine your level of success in this course.
Grades are available online using the Parent Portal and are updated on a regular basis. If questions or concerns arise, parents should contact instructors via email to clarify any confusion. We encourage all students and parents to gain access to Parent Portal to view grades.
Grading Policy:
Formative Work 25%
Formative work will include daily assignments that help measure student understanding in preparation for mastery exams.
Summative Work 75%
Summative work will mainly consist of tests and quizzes that measure student mastery. Quizzes will be given throughout the unit to give you a chance to demonstrate mastery. You can expect 3 or more quizzes per unit. Unit test will be given at the end of each unit and will count as two tests grades. Projects may also be included in summative work.
Electronic Devices
Consequences for Academic and Behavioral Issues:
2nd- communication with student and parent
3rd- student will be sent to the office
Severe discipline offenses may result in an automatic office referral.
Academic Dishonesty
Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. The determination that a student has engaged in academic dishonesty will be based on the judgment of the classroom teacher or other supervising professional employee, taking into consideration written materials, observations, or information from students. A student found to have engaged in academic dishonesty will be subject to disciplinary penalties per the Student Code of Conduct, as well as academic penalties. Teachers who have reason to believe a student has engaged in cheating or academic dishonesty will assign a zero for the work in question.
IMPORTANT!
Unless your teacher specifically tells you that you may work with other students on an assignment, you are expected to work on all assignments by yourself, using only your own thoughts, ideas, and reasoning.
To Be Successful...
- Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
- Turn assignments in on time (at the beginning of the period).
Be Prepared
- Have your assignments completed and ready.
- Have the necessary materials (pencil, paper, books, charged Chromebook, etc.).
- Be ready to positively contribute to the class.
- Be prepared to deal with consequences should the need arise.
- Be on task during class activities, discussions, etc.
Be Polite
- Show respect to all (yourself, your classmates, your teachers, and property).
- Use electronic devices in a respectful, approved manner.
- Raise your hand.
- Use your manners. Nice MATTERS!
It is expected that you will be respectful of yourself, of those around you, and of school and personal property. You are expected to use your scheduled break times (before and after classes, and lunch) to use the restroom. Passes are limited and given at the discretion of the teacher.
