Weekly Update December 10, 2021
Head Cheetah's Message
Dear Families,
Excitement and an upbeat tempo filled the halls of Memorial School this week. We began the week with an adjustment to new bus routes. Our students did a beautiful job transitioning to new bus numbers and routines. Thank you for your support with a change that will ensure an efficient and timely arrival and departure. Throughout the week, students made shopping lists and thoughtfully picked out gifts for family members at our PTO sponsored Holiday Shop. Thank you to all the PTO volunteers who came to serve as shopping assistants, and gift wrapping elves. And finally, in support of children battling cancer at CCMC, we ended the week in pajamas!
Classroom tidbits:
- In kindergarten, students are practicing addition by acting out addition problems.
- In first grade this week, students have been learning how to use addition to check their subtraction facts.
- In second grade, students are working on how and when to regroup when adding two-digit numbers.
- In third Grade, students are continuing to build efficient strategies to multiply, including skip counting, models, repeated addition.
As is always the case, we truly appreciate your partnership. Have a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Joey and Andrea

Memorial School Library
Hi Cheetah families!
It has been another busy month in the Memorial School library. Thank you for all your support with the book fair!
PreK students are enjoying a variety of read alouds and songs with the themes of thankfulness, kindness, and winter. We have also practiced some fun rhymes and songs.
Kindergarten has worked on retelling a story. We watched the story Library Lion on Storyline Online. Each student had a specific focus to concentrate on. They had to either pay close attention to the characters, the setting, or the events. Afterwards we worked as a class to retell the story. During early December we are learning all about caribou and practicing sorting facts versus opinions.
First grade has finished their unit on digital citizenship. We have watched several short videos by Planet Nutshell and reinforced the video’s messages through class discussions. We are also spending some time learning facts about caribou and practicing identifying nonfiction and fiction texts.
Second grade is finishing their unit on digital citizenship. We will be working through library centers this month to reinforce what we have learned so far. Centers will include: practicing with the keyboard; exploring Google’s game Interland; learning about the Cyber5 rules for safety; or participating in an online behavior sort.
Third graders have finished the work started in October using the Common Sense Media digital citizenship lessons in the website, Nearpod. In early December, we accessed our Code Monkey accounts and students began working through the coding curriculum within the program.

Parents/guardians,
Reminders:
*Please bring in an extra set of seasonally appropriate clothing for your child to keep at school. The occasional accident happens and if your child has their own clothing we know that it will fit them and that they will be comfortable.
*With the colder weather here, please make sure your child also has a coat, gloves and a hat labeled with their names. The nurse's office has very limited clothing to spare in case a change or spare is needed.
*We also ask that you bring a labeled water bottle for your child and they can fill it up throughout the day in the water filling stations as needed.
*Preschool students are required to show proof of vaccination against the flu by December 31st. If you have not done so already, please provide documentation of immunization to the school as soon as possible. We appreciate your assistance,
Nurse Katie and Miss Michelle
The halls were alive with the sound of happy students!
