2021-2022 Important Information 2021-2022 Important Information

First Day of School

The first day of school for students is August 25. We are excited to welcome all students back on this day! Start time at the Middle School has been moved to 8:05am for this school year. The school day ends at 3:00pm. We encourage all students to ride school transportation when possible. Students being dropped off, walking, or riding bikes to school will be permitted to enter the building beginning at 7:50am. All students wishing to eat school breakfast should report to their cafeteria (5th grade cafeteria or 6-8 cafeteria).

Student Schedule Pick-Up

Student schedules for the upcoming school year will be available for pick-up on Thursday, August 19 from 1:00pm-5:00pm. Schedules will only be run and distributed to families who have completed their Parent Portal updates (instructions at the bottom of this update). Families are welcome to pick up schedules in the auditorium lobby (park in the large lot off Paula Drive) during those hours. This time also coincides with 5th Grade WEB orientation pick-up. Families can pick their child up at the conclusion of the WEB event and pick up your schedules at the same time. The building will also be open for students to walk the building and locate their classes during this time. Your student schedule will indicate the courses your child is enrolled in and the teachers they will have for the year. This schedule will also indicate what team your child will be on, allowing you to know which team presentation to attend on Open House night.

School Fees

We no longer take credit card payments in person or over the phone.

School fees can be paid with a credit card on payforit.net. If you prefer to pay with cash or check, families send checks in or visit our financial secretary during school hours at the building.

Still Available!!! Free Book Bag and School Supplies for Incoming 5th Graders

Through a generous donation from the Berea Elks #1815, we have received 100 Titan book bags filled with all the school supply items for 5th grade. We are very thankful and pleased to offer these bags and supplies to any 5th grade family. Families are welcome to stop into the main office (entrance off Paula Drive) between 8:00am and 3:00pm to pick up a bag and supplies for their incoming 5th grader while supplies last.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up

Students being dropped of by car can be dropped off at one of three entrances. Students can be dropped off at the 5th grade car loop off Middlebrook, the main entrance loop off Paula or the auditorium doors off Paula. All drop-off spots have a car loop that allow vehicles to enter off the main road, drop their child or children off and loop back out to the main road. Again, students should be dropped off no earlier than 7:50am. Car pick-up occurs at the same three entrances. Please talk to your child about which entrance you plan to pick them up at when dismissed at the end of the day. Bus riders will be dropped off and picked up at the back of the building. Please make sure your child knows their bus letter for the first day of school!

5th Grade WEB Orientation

5th Grade Parents! We are very excited that your child will be attending Berea-Midpark Middle School, and we look forward to seeing them at our 5th Grade Orientation Day on August 19th from 8 AM to 1 PM at the middle school. Our WEB Program will help get your 5th grader off to a great start!

Orientation Information:

  • Parents are welcome to attend an optional and short parent meeting at 8:00am in the middle school auditorium that morning.
  • PTA will be providing lunch to students on this day.
  • Masks are optional, but recommended.

WHAT IS WEB? WEB is a nationwide program designed to welcome and support 5th graders by connecting them with WEB Leaders, who are positive, responsible, hand-selected 8th graders. Your studentโ€™s WEB Leaders will help them feel more comfortable as well as help them achieve success in their first year of middle school. Doesnโ€™t that sound great? It is!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

  1. Your child will receive an invitation sent via email to orientation. If they have not received the invitation by August 13th, please email Mr. Hall at nhall@bereaschools.org to request one;
  2. A day or two before orientation, your child will also receive a phone call from their WEB Leader personally inviting them to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time. The Leaders can also answer any questions they may have;
  3. Your student is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items as the day is quite active;
  4. Because the day is active, please make sure that your student wears comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement;
  5. Cell phone use is forbidden on this day. This is a student only function so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own. Please feel free, however, to attend the PARENT MEETING that morning at 8:00 AM in the Berea-Midpark Middle School auditorium.

We look forward to having your child join us for Orientation!

This year, all open house dates are prior to the start of the school year. Mark your calendar. More specific information will follow closer to the start of school. The format of open house at the middle school will be a presentation from your child's team starting at either 5:15pm or 6:15pm. Students can then self-tour the building to find their classes and visit their special area teachers.

5th Grade Open House: August 23 from 5:15-6:00pm

6th Grade Open House: August 23 from 6:15-7:00pm

7th Grade Open House: August 24 from 5:15-6:00pm

8th Grade Open House: August 24 from 6:15-7:00pm

New Procedures for the 2021-2022 School Year

The pandemic, as disruptive and difficult as it was, provided an opportunity for BMMS to review and discuss some of our standing traditions and protocols at the building. We were forced to do things differently, but found that some of those changes helped make our building run better and made life easier for our students. We will review all of our building procedures and our PBIS matrix with students at the start of the year, but wanted to share a few of these changes with families.

  1. Students in grades 5-8 will be permitted to carry book bags throughout the day.
  2. Students in grades 5-8 will be assigned a locker. Combination locks will not be used on lockers and students will be permitted to visit their locker at the start of the day, prior to lunch, and at the end of the day. Should students need something from their lockers throughout the day, they will be provided a pass to visit their locker.
  3. Students are permitted to carry water bottles throughout the day. With the support of PTA, we have installed multiple water bottle filling stations throughout the building for students to use.

Important Parent Portal Update Requirements!

OLR Annual Update-Important Information for ALL Berea City Schools Families

As a district, we are continuing to use technology to streamline the amount of paperwork that has to be filled out by parents each year. We continue to make great strides toward that goal by using the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to complete an Update annually. Through this Annual Update, parents and guardians will be able to enter Emergency Medical Authorization, update emergency contacts, and other information pertaining to households and students.

NEW for the 2020/21 SY, the Emergency Medical Authorization is collected COMPLETELY through this Update process. Therefore, the ONLY students that will ALSO be required to complete the FINAL FORMS application process will be the athletes applying for sports participation.

It is REQUIRED that parents or guardians complete the Annual Update as soon as possible Or PRIOR TO schedule pickup and the posting of the class lists at the elementary level. (This applies even if you recently enrolled a new student for the upcoming school year during the spring open enrollment for preschool and kindergarten.) IF not completed, elementary students will NOT get their teacher assignment and middle school and high school students will NOT get their schedules. Schedules will not be displayed on the Student or Parent Portal until after schedule pick up.

The Parent Portal can be accessed through the Berea City Schools website (directions below) or by using this link: If you experience issues with logging in, please click icportalsupport and complete the help request form.

For directions on how to update your information, please watch this Online Registration and Update video or follow the instructions (below):

12. Complete/update each existing student's information.

13. Add any non-enrolled children that will be starting school during the 2020/21 SY,

14. If any of your information on the summary page is highlighted in yellow, you have missed a required field and must edit to go back in and update.

15. Once Done. Click "Submit". There is an option to print the registration application summary on this page.

16. You will receive an email confirmation shortly after your registration is submitted.

NOTES:

  • Since this is an Annual Update, unless you have moved or legal custody has changed, you do not need to upload any documents. All other uploads are only for an existing family adding a new student.

  • The process CANNOT be successfully completed on a mobile or tablet device. Also, please make sure that your browser is set to allow pop-ups. The application works best using Chrome or Firefox browsers.

If you need assistance, please call the Office of Registration 216-898-8300. Thank you!
