Reminder: No School on February 20th
You can view the current Franklin COVID-19 cases on the Franklin COVID-19 Dashboard found here. The dashboard is updated at the end of the day, Monday through Friday.
Our fabulous PTA volunteers will be leading our classrooms in Valentine's Day parties on February 14th. Students can bring Valentine's to pass out in class. We have a few reminders regarding student Valentines.
- Please do not address on your Valentines to the other students in your child's class. Only complete the "From" section with your child's name. This will help us as we hand out our Valentines at school.
- The school policy is no food or candy to be attached to the Valentine's Day cards.
Did you know? A plastic bag can take from 15 to 1,000 years to break down and only about 2% of bags are actually recycled. Support the Maine South Environmental Club by bringing in your plastic grocery, ziplock/sandwich, newspaper, bread and cereal bags. Their goal is to collect 500 pound of plastic bags to build a bench near their front pond. Send your child with clean plastic bags and will ensure your plastic bag goes to a good cause! ~ Your Franklin Green Team
Our collection box (pictured below) can be found in the front office vestibule. Let's put those old plastic bags to a good use!
As we are in winter weather months, here are a few reminders about appropriate gear for recess:
- Students are encouraged to bring winter jackets, snow pants, boots, gloves/mittens, and hats to school each day.
- Please label all winter items with your child's first and last name.
- Students need jackets, snow pants, and boots to play in the snow at recess.
- Students without boots and snow pants must remain on the blacktop.
- As long as the blacktop is cleared and the weather report states that the temperature outside feels like 10 degrees or warmer, students will go outside for recess.
- We encourage you to send an extra pair of pants and socks in your child's backpack during winter in case student's clothes get wet during recess.
Anyone Entering Franklin
All parents/guardians/visitors to Franklin must have a valid state ID or driver’s license. These will be entered into the Raptor identification system. This process only takes a short time to complete. Once you have clearance, a visitor pass will be printed and attached to a lanyard that you must wear throughout the building. The office will hold your ID until you return to the office and return the lanyard that was given to you. We request that you please be patient with staff as we proceed with this district-mandated safety procedure.
Student-Parent Handbook
Franklin Elementary School, along with all District 64 schools, operates following policies and practices that have been reviewed and implemented by the District 64 Board of Education. Please review the D64 Student-Parent Handbook before the start of the school year.
Girls on the Run is a running club held for Franklin's 3rd through 5th grade girls. It is held after school at Franklin. Registration details are below. Please reach out to Ms. Sutter at msutter@d64.org for more details.
Chess-Ed Spring Session
Chess-Ed is excited to return to Franklin to provide lunchtime chess instruction this Spring.
The 10-week program runs from 3/1/23 to 5/10/23 and takes place on Wednesdays
from 11:05 am to 12:00 pm (during lunch). The program is open to students in all grades
and of all chess abilities (including those in full-day and half-day Kindergarten).
Professional instruction will include the basics for beginner and novice players and build
with opening theory, middle game planning, and end game combinations for continuing and
advanced students. Playing chess improves memory, uses analytical and critical thinking
skills, teaches problem solving, responsibility, sportsmanship, social skills and more! The
benefits of chess last a lifetime!
To register, please go to www.2022-2023franklinchess.eventbee.com. Register soon
to secure your student’s spot and to take advantage of the lowest available fee. For more
information about the program, please refer to the program flyer. Chess-Ed is looking
forward to working with your CHESS ENTHUSIAST this Spring!
PTA Updates
Going forward when you are making a purchase through Membership toolkit the option to
process with PayPal will no longer exist. The site has switched to LumaPay. You will be
prompted to put in your credit card info. Debit cards will not be accepted.
There is no action required for this change. We just wanted families to be aware of the
payment process going forward.
Tickets are on sale now!
Just to clarify we have received questions about multiple parents attending if there is more
than one student in a family. We simply can not accommodate that many people at an
event so that is why we are saying only 1 VIP per family. Thank you so much for
understanding!
We are still in need of some volunteers
● Set up before the event- you would be lifting tables
● Clean up after the event
● Someone to dress as Frankie the Falcon! Maybe one of our amazing Franklin alums
now in middle school!
Please sign up in membership toolkit if you can help!
